All About Your April Beer!

Five Beers From The Wild Ride Boys

Central Oregon is booming. Redmond in particular is seeing an influx of residents, restaurants and breweries. After six years of brewing and serving the public, Wild Ride Brew has become an important and established part of that brewing scene.

Located inside a refurbished lumber warehouse, Wild Ride was one of the first breweries in the area to really embrace the food cart pod which has since become so popular. They marry traditional beer styles with some more experimental and sour beers. Drink to taste for yourself!

Wild Ride Whoopty Whoop Hefeweizen With Lemon Peel

Looking Forward To Summer

Wild Ride's brewing capacity has increased somewhat since 2014, but they are still small enough to brew single batches and one-offs. We've had a few versions of wheat beers from them in the past, but this is the first time we've seen their canned Whoopty Whoop Hef with Lemon Peel.

This is a sunny day beer if we've ever tried one, an American-style hefeweizen that includes the late addition of lemon peel. The result is refreshing and crushable, with some citrus and light tartness gifted by the lemon.

Wild Ride Hippy Haze IPA

Hazy IPAs: A Lifestyle

The hazy IPA style born in New England area has swept every corner of the nation. As Alaskans we know this because we are one of the corners of that nation. Hazy IPAs are designed to be cloudy in appearance, with only a faint memory of the dry bitterness of the West Coast style.

Another feature of the style is a hop profile which really shows off the fruit aromas and flavors; in this case, a combination of Mosaic, Denali, Citra and Meridian hops provide that pineapple and citrus quality.

Wild Ride Cold Chillin' Vanilla Cream Ale

An Updated Retro Chiller

Wild Ride dipped their toe into the experimental side of things with their Cold Chillin' Vanilla Cream Ale. Cream ale is a light lager style born in the United States a couple centuries ago, and refined by Canada throughout prohibition. They highlight drinkability over intense hop or malt presence; they're not as much in vogue now, but they provide an intriguing canvas for easy drinking.

In this case, vanilla beans were added to the cream ale base to provide some nice sweetness to the creamy smooth foundation.

Wild Ride Tarty To the Party Guava Tangerine Sour Ale

Fashionably Tarty

Sour beers have gone from niche to mainstream, and the folks at Wild Ride have not been shy about exploring the genre. Bodegans might have tried some of their previous sours, but this is the first time we've gotten our hands on their tropical Guava Tangerine.

This series is kettle-soured, meaning the beer is quick-soured and fermented in stainless steel, with the help of Lactobacillus, a helpful bacteria. As you might imagine, this sweet and tangy sour is bursting with tropical fruit which influences the aroma, flavor and mouthfeel.

Wild Ride Laughing Face Imperial Coconut Porter

Dreaming Of The Tropics? We're Sensing A Theme

The darkest and strongest beer of this month's club, the Laughing Face still shows a bit of that island sensibility. Coconut and subtle chocolate impart some sweetness, though it still maintains that classic porter roastiness. This was achieved by using specialty malts and over 50 pounds of shaved coconut!

Although it's not terribly heavy, it still clocks in at 9% ABV and will leave a lingering alcohol warmth. This makes it a delightful beer for cool evenings when planning for when we can finally socially mingle again.
