As you are by now aware, the Token 3 Club was finally forced to shut down in the face of the disproportionate risks posed by the corona virus. We stayed open as long as we could, initially gaining an ‘essential service’ designation because of the services we provide and the steps we had taken to create ‘social distancing’ in our meeting spaces.  But keeping that ‘social distancing’ became impossible, as meetings around town shut their doors and our Token Club became one of the last person-to-person meeting spaces.
 
Alcoholics, addicts and families who have discovered the power of 12 step recovery are getting by now with online meetings as a temporary measure. Tragically, the newcomers to recovery, who, of course, have the greatest need and are the most fragile have nowhere to go to make that vital connection and build personal trust with another alcoholic in person.  And no place offers this life saving connection in a safe and welcoming environment as well as the Token Club.
 
At the same time, the Token Club continues to incur expenses during the shutdown and so, along with everything else, Covid-19 is impacting the financial strength of the organization and is putting our long-term operation at risk. 
 
We know that there are many who are impacted but the tragic impacts of the Covid-19 Pandemic. As our Executive Director has said in a recent interview with the Courier Journal, "people will continue to die of addiction long after Covid-19 "and it is most likely that those who have not found recovery have been disproportionately impacted by the virus.
