Protection for Health Care Workers

Call your US Senators and Representative.

MESSAGE:

I’m calling/writing to urge you to insist that US Senators and Reps return to D.C. and push hard to pass Sen. Chris Murphy’s Medical Supply Chain Emergency Act to massively improve our coronavirus response capabilities. The bill will order Trump to take over and speed up the manufacturing of medical supplies, including protective equipment, ventilators, testing kits, etc.) and ensure that they are distributed fairly.

The first rule of emergency response is to protect the rescuers. The government has left our front-line health care workers hanging out to dry with insufficient protection, risking their lives to protect us. And our friends and families are falling sick without sufficient equipment to diagnose and treat them.

We need the Medical Supply Chain Emergency Act yesterday (actually many weeks ago). Please get your colleagues back to DC and get it done, for everyone’s sake.

Bar Barr’s Imprisonment Spree

Call your US Senators and Representative.

MESSAGE:

I’m calling/writing to urge the Senator/Representative to oppose Attorney General Barr’s request to indefinitely imprison anyone he chooses. Barr has asked Congress to allow chief judges to indefinitely hold people without trial and suspend other constitutionally protected rights during the coronavirus and other emergencies. Forfeiting our Constitutional rights and increasing already overcrowded prison populations don’t address the pandemic and would only worsen its impact. I also ask that the Senator/Representative push for covid testing of every prisoner released into the community, and for access to social distancing and protective hygiene for those left inside.

Moving Forward

Making it happen: Week 31

We had our first virtual SwingLeft letter-writing party on Saturday, March 28. Intentionally small to accommodate troubleshooting, we had 6 participants and wrote 110 letters. It was wonderful to see friends and chat - virtual, but wonderful. Woohoo! Gold stars on collars!

Many thanks to our volunteer admin assistants this week - Grace and Hanna Clute printed off 1300+ SwingLeft letter forms, and Randy Helm shuffled them into packets to give out. Woohoo! Gold stars on collars!

Kudos to those who’ve come by to get letter-writing packets to do on their own at home - Daera Dobbs, Suzanne Warren, and Claire Culbertson. Woohoo! Gold stars on collars!

Make it happen: Choose your action

ALL hands are needed on deck to ensure CHANGE in 2020! Partner with ICG to do your part for the next 31 weeks. We ask each of our followers and subscribers to commit to at least one action from ICG’s 2020 Action Menu each week. Let us know what you did, for a virtual gold star on your virtual collar.

Focus on November Elections

It seems the November elections are falling to the side of the radar screen now with virus concerns front and center, but we’ve got to keep our eyes on that goal. Trump and his toadies in the Senate needed to be replaced with real leaders before Covid, and they’ve proven themselves no better since.

Our work, along with allies all over the country, continues. Focus. Gear up. Energy up. We’ve got work to keep doing, and (fortunately) much of it can be done from home.
