ARC England update
Hello,

Our focus in this issue continues to be bringing you the latest COVID-19 advice and useful resources. Please continue to share anything that you have found helpful and we will pass it on to our members.

ARC Member Conference Calls
Our weekly conference call with members continues to provide a very useful forum for sharing and discussing key matters, including PPE provision, infection control, critical worker ID and funding. Lisa will be taking these issues forward and we will report back on any developments as and when they happen.

Look out for your invitation to the next ARC conference call on Wednesday 8 April 2.30-3.30pm.

Membership Renewal
It's more important than ever that we join together as a community to make the voices of social care providers heard in government and beyond.

It's the beginning of our membership year and renewal emails have gone out to all our members. If you haven't yet received yours let us know. If you are not yet a member check out our membership benefits and join today.

Lisa Lenton, ARC England Director and Chair of the Care Provider Alliance, continues to work hard to represent the needs of our members at government level at this critical time for the social care and learning disability sectors.

Below is a list of resources; it's long but we want to make sure that we share all that has been made available this week.

Joint statement on advance care planning Logos of BMA, CPA, CQC and RCGP
The importance of having a personalised care plan in place, especially for older people, people who are frail or have other serious conditions has never been more important than it is now during the Covid 19 Pandemic.

Where a person has capacity, as defined by the Mental Capacity Act, this advance care plan should always be discussed with them directly. Where a person lacks the capacity to engage with this process then it is reasonable to produce such a plan following best interest guidelines with the involvement of family members or other appropriate individuals.

Such advance care plans may result in the consideration and completion of a Do Not Attempt Resuscitation (DNAR) or ReSPECT form. It remains essential that these decisions are made on an individual basis. The General Practitioner continues to have a central role in the consideration, completion and signing of DNAR forms for people in community settings.

It is unacceptable for advance care plans, with or without DNAR form completion to be applied to groups of people of any description. These decisions must continue to be made on an individual basis according to need.

This is a joint statement from the following organisations:

  • British Medical Association (BMA)
  • Care Provider Alliance (CPA)
  • Care Quality Commission (CQC)
  • Royal College of General Practice (RCGP)

CQC Give Feedback on Care Online System
As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic CQC have suspended their routine inspections to reduce the pressure on health and social care services during the coronavirus outbreak. They will still monitor using data and information, and will still visit if they think there's a risk of harm or abuse.

They encourage feedback from people who use services during this time via CQC’s Give Feedback on Care online service.
