Kia Ora!

Wow. What a month. We hope you and your bubble are coping and supporting one another. This newsletter has some updates from around the city and tips for getting through this challenging time.

First up, our Annual General Meeting scheduled for 5 May 2020 at 6:30 PM has been postponed. A new date will be set within three months, pending changes to the lockdown currently in place. We are also exploring options for conducting the AGM virtually. We are still keen to hear from people interested in standing for the committee or getting more involved in our work, so feel free to get in touch before the AGM.

Earthquake prone buildings survey

2020 survey on costs of strengthening multi-owner residential earthquake prone buildings - responses due 13 April 2020

In May 2019, Inner City Wellington undertook a survey of multi-owner residential buildings on the Earthquake-prone Buildings Register. The data provided has been invaluable in trying to describe to Government and Wellington City Council, the reality of the burden the earthquake-prone buildings legislation is putting on home owners.

We want to update and expand our data. We want to present a comprehensive picture of what owners are facing based on authoritative data that comes from residential building owners themselves. We know there are around 40 earthquake prone residential buildings in Wellington. Data is so important and we need yours!

The survey has already been sent to attendees of the June 2019 public meeting, so if you have already received it, you only need to answer once.

If you are an owner in such a building, please:
  • send this email to your Body Corporate Chair or the owner(s) who are managing the strengthening project
  • ask them to complete the survey by 13 April 2020. Respondents can exit the survey, and go back in, using the same device, to complete the survey. It takes around 20 minutes.

Responses will be automatically submitted to Hazel Kirkham, who will be doing the analysis. Hazel is a member of the collaborative lobbying group working on behalf of owners since early 2018. Only Hazel will have access to the individual responses. Analysis of the responses will not identify buildings or owners.

Problems using the survey
Contact Hazel Kirkham (hazelkirkham@xtra.co.nz) if you have any difficulties completing the survey online.  She can send a PDF version if necessary.
