Welcome to our monthly newsletter focused on the journey to CNUCOM's full accreditation by the LCME. We hope that this will be both be informative and timely.
Students' Corner...
Congratulations to the CNUCOM Class of 2020!
Our Class of 2020 celebrated a successful Match Day virtually--and what an event it was! Congratulations to our soon-to-be CNUCOM graduates on a 98.9% match rate. We are so proud! Check out the happenings at CNUCOM on Facebook at @medicine.cnsu!
The Self-Study process involves our own collection, analysis and action plan development as related to our adherence to guidelines set by the LCME. These guidelines are divided into "Standards", each of which includes several specific "Elements" focused on particular aspects of the MD program. This month we highlight...
Standard 3:
Academic & Learning Environments
GET READY!
The Standard 3 Subcommittee is led by Dr. Floyd Culler. Standard 3 has six components ("elements") collectively focused on ensuring that the COM has a medical education program that occurs in a professional, respectful and intellectually stimulating academic and clinical environment while recognizing the benefits of diversity and promoting students’ attainment of professional competencies required of future physicians.
GET SET!
The CNUCOM Diversity Policy and charter are approved foundation documents of CNUCOM’s diversity effort. In compliance with Element 3.3, we are now focused on specific outcome measures related to ongoing, systematic and focused recruitment and retention of a diverse student body, faculty, senior administrative staff, and other relevant academic community members, including the use of pipeline programs.
GO!  The Standard 3 Subcommittee is engaged in the analysis of data on recruitment and retention of medical students, faculty and senior administrative staff in focused aspects of diversity. Furthermore, the effectiveness of CNUCOM pipeline programs at broadening diversity among qualified medical school applicants is being assessed. Data analyzed includes program characteristics, number of student participants and program outcome. These analyses will be reported to the LCME and used to further enrich and enhance our CNUCOM community.
Amidst the USMLE Step studying, accreditation preparation, and day-to-day clinical and pre-clerkship training, the COVID-19 global pandemic has reminded us all of the importance of family and friends. We hope that each of you will practice prevention, and set aside some time each day to take care of yourselves and your loved ones, and we look forward to seeing you back in class and on the wards whenever the circumstances allow. See here for more on the national conversation regarding medical education at all levels. and the challenges we all currently face.
