19 Dope Kenyan Albums, EPs and Mixtapes Reviews from 2019

2019 was a wonderful year for Kenyan music, judging by the flow of fantastic quality records and music compilations. Just like our lead, Music Publicist extraordinaire Anyiko Owoko, we are all believers in the Kenyan music industry. This type of dope and versatile content is what fuels our team. It wasn't possible to mention all Kenyan compilations from 2019 but shouts to Bey T (Concept: Vol 1), Wakadinali (Mtoto Wa Mama), Kesi (Kaa La Moto), Hotbox Music (Alcabagdad), Mvroe (Gvrls) and DJ Tin Tin & Dillie (Ibada). Grab your earphones and let’s dive in! Read review: https://bit.ly/2USH8qz
WurlD is prepping to drop another MAD project!

Multi-talented Nigerian-American singer-songwriter and record producer WulrD teamed up with Sarz, one of the baddest producers in Nigeria, to produce the 8-track EP: I LOVE GIRLS WITH TROBUL (ILGWT), released late 2019. Sitting on the success of ILGWT and co-writing one of the biggest tracks of 2019, “Blow My Mind” by Davido and Chris Brown, WurlD is now set to release a new body of work in 2020. But before then, here's a spotlight on “MAD” - the lead single of ILGWT project. It’s a mid-tempo Afrobeat and Pop record about an emotionally distressed lover. Although still in love, he complains about a toxic relationship. Listen to "MAD": https://bit.ly/3aUBXvA
You can now stream 'City of Nairobi' by Eagles Lupopo Lupopo 77

The Eagles Lupopo is a Kenyan band set up in 1972 after the breakup of The Equator Sound Band. Daudi Kabaka, Fadhili William, Nashil Pichen and Peter Tsotsi Juma were the main base of the band with Benson Simbeye, Charles Sonko and Gabriel Omolo being included at different stages along the way. These artists went on to re-record all those songs that they had originally performed on the Equator Records label. All these songs were Peter Tsotsi’s very own. Brought out on the “African Eagles Lupopo” label under the A.I. Records distribution network, all the African Eagles albums were hits! Ok, let's take you back to the 70s sound of Nairobi:  https://bit.ly/2JPu1jn

VIDEOS OF THE WEEK
"MAD" music video was shot in Lagos and directed by Chukwuka Nwobi, Baba Agba, Muktar and WurlD. It depicts the all too familiar narrative of a couple that are bad together, yet mad without each other.
Mandi says, "Pilau is such an easy dish to make. It's quite popular all year round. Pilau needs very few bold ingredients and boom you are ready to tear it up!"
"Days of Insanity" single is off 'Tales of America', the Grammy-nominated debut album of 28-year-old Kenyan singer J.S Ondara. The music video is thought-proving, just like the lyrics of the song.
"Trouble" is a vibrant urban-Afro track and the lead single off Okiemute's debut EP.  Its music video has an amazing choreography that will make you wanna dance!
We appreciate the fact that these tough Covid-19 times have brought our artists closer to us, in exclusive intimate live performances, right into our living rooms or simply just a click away. In the past weeks, we've been lucky to watch the likes of Sauti Sol, Muthoni DQ, H_art The Band, Yemi Alade, Adekunle Gold and of course Nyashinksi who just released songs off his upcoming album titled 'Lucky You' in a live performance alongside his band, last night. His anticipated debut album will drop April 17th 2020. Lucky us!

Stay safe! #TeamAnyikoPR
