Dear <<First Name>>

We're pleased to inform you that the seasonal flu vaccine is now available

We have received limited stock of the 2020 flu vaccines - these are now available on a "first come, first served" basis.

Should you wish to come in for a vaccination, please contact our reception desk at 021 439 6060 or info@myfamilygp.co.za.

The sooner you receive the vaccine, the sooner your body can begin manufacturing protective antibodies against the influenza virus.

Please remember that the vaccine contains inactivated particles - unlike some vaccines which use an alive, but weakened form of the virus, the influenza vaccine does not contain live virus, and it cannot make you ill, or give you the flu.

Some patients will experience some symptoms of an immune response (usually headaches, mild fever, or body pains) for a couple of days after the vaccination, but these symptoms are mild and subside quickly.

Our services continue running during lockdown

We urge all our patients to follow the regulations set out by Government for the national lockdown. As an essential service, however, our doctors' rooms remain open throughout this period. While we must all be very cognizant of COVID-19 and take whatever steps we can to curb its spread, we should also be careful not to neglect other acute or chronic healthcare needs, and we remain available to care for you throughout this challenging period.

Up to date information about COVID-19

We're all working hard to stay abreast of the latest developments around COVID-19, and we've set up a dedicated space on our website where we'll bring you the newest and most reliable information.
You can find our COVID-19 page here.
As a reminder, you can also find reliable information at the WHO, and NICD.

Masks, gloves, and personal protective equipment (PPE)

We know many people are unsure as to how to protect themselves from possible infection with COVID-19. We, as doctors, often find ourselves in situations where we might need PPE in order to protect ourselves from infection, since we are frequently in close contact with sick persons who have infectious diseases. For the general public, however, the World Health Organization (WHO) continues to make these recommendations:
  • Healthy people should only wear masks when caring for someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19
  • People who are coughing or sneezing should wear a mask to prevent spreading any pathogens they might be carrying
  • Masks are only effective when combined with effective hand hygiene
  • Using a mask incorrectly can be dangerous if one doesn't know how to properly use and dispose of it

As new information becomes available, these recommendations might change; if they do, we will be sure to keep you updated!

Yours, in solidarity and health
Drs Leon Geffen, Graham Chivers, Orit Laskov, Dion Dorfman, and Anastacia Tomson
