Walking and cycling are still allowed. In fact, the Belgian National Security Council even recommends outdoor exercise. You can go for a walk or go cycling:
✅ alone
✅ with family members (living under the same roof)
✅ or with a friend (always the same friend).
❎ Taking public transport or your car to go to the starting point of a walk or a cycling trip or to go to a park or forest is not allowed. Exception: families with kids under and equal to 5 years old, people with reduced mobility (e.g. older people or pregnant women) and support persons of people with a physical or mental disability. One should stay in their own neighbourhood though.
🥾
Walking
✅Parks, forests and nature reserves remain open. The provincial domains in Zoutleeuw, Kessel-lo, Diest and Huizingen are open as well (for local residents). You can still go for a walk and enjoy our gorgeous landscapes. However, do be sure to observe the following guidelines:
📏 The key rule to keep in mind is distance. Try and stay at least two meters away from other people.
🚶 When going on a walk, go alone or with your immediate family. Avoid outings with elderly people or anyone who belongs to an at-risk group.
🏠 If the forest or nature reserve in question appears too busy, go home, look for another place or come back when things are calmer.
⛔️ All playgrounds and play forests are closed, which includes the playgrounds in our provincial domains as well. Please don’t let your kids play in them – even if they are still physically ‘accessible’.
📝 For the rest, the normal rules continue to apply. Stay on the paths and don’t enter nature reserves or forests that are closed to the public.
🚲
Cycling
Access to our cycling network remains open and so does access to our signposted sport routes. Stick to the guidelines here too and don’t travel in groups.
❎What services or locations are no longer available? Tourist information offices, museums, experience centres, cafés, restaurants, etc. will definitely remain closed through 19 April. Please keep this in mind. It means that the opening hours listed on our website are not valid during this period.
📅 All recreational, sports-related, cultural and folkloric activities and events – regardless of their size – have been cancelled or postponed.
⚠️We will continue to monitor the instructions issued by the federal government.
In the meantime, stay safe and be careful. Always follow the prescribed hygiene measures, wherever you are. Check our Facebook
