Keep safe and stay well

News

Dear friends and colleagues

I hope you are all keeping safe and staying well. Like many of you I am in total lockdown at the moment, though some of you I know will 'only' be in partial lockdown and are able to leave the house for essentials and the one session of daily exercise.

My health has taken a slight turn for the worse but I am reasonably hopeful that the planned new treatment due to start in a few weeks time will work and I will still be able to continue doing what I love doing which is to draw, even though the world does not need another piece of work by me!

Sadly two personal exhibitions have been postponed so news on those in a future newsletter. You can browse through some of the work I was going to
show, some of which is stuck at the framers and some stuck at the printers for scanning,  by clicking the links below:

There are still pieces from my Beachtime Stories series available to buy and I have joined Matthew Burrows's #artistsupportpledge initiative over on Instagram as a channel for selling work at under £200.

It’s a simple concept, you post images of your work you are willing to sell for no more than £200 each (not including shipping). Every time you reach £1,000 of sales you pledge to buy another artist’s work for £200. This creates a small but dynamic market where all can contribute whatever their level of success. This is a culture dependent on the honesty and generosity of our artistic communities at every level.

This is a really wonderful example of the many different ways in which various communities can support each other at a time when the usual business and others channels cannot operate as they used to.

I have started a new series of ink drawings based on old photographs, which I have decided to call Family Stories. Sometimes looking at the photo prompts my memory, sometimes I don't remember the occasion so I respond to what the photo evokes or I may just have found a photo of my parents, or grandparents or other members of the family that doesn't involve me at all but looking at it triggers different trains of thought about my relationship to them.
