In light of the current situation, and along with our colleagues and friends in the community, many of our members have taken this opportunity to learn new skills.
Our Older Voices radio team normally broadcast their monthly radio show from NOVA Studios in Fenham however, thanks to the technology now readily available to many of us, the show being broadcast tomorrow Friday 3rd April has been curated by co-ordinator Steve Whitley, from his home.
We invite you to listen in to the show which includes the following conversations around 'Our City'
John Grundy and Anthea Lang, a city guide, give a fascinating account of how Newcastle became the great city it is today and a one-hundred-and-two-year-old tells us what it's been like since 1918.
Councillor Ged Bell, responsible for future planning, and John Telfer, Co-ordinater of the Elders Council's Older Person Friendly City Working Group, look 25 years into the future to see what improvements are in the pipeline.
There will be advice on Covid-19.
A poem (Focus on the crocus).
A story (20/20 vision for Newcastle).
Sandy Irvine on green issues.
Susan Pownall's gardening slot.
And lastly, Eunice Davidson's Thought for April.
The programme has been put together remotely through Skype, Facetime and Zoom. The message from the curator is, you can teach old dogs new tricks!
You can listen in from 2pm to 4pm on Friday 3rd April on wavelength 102.5 fm, or by going to Nova Radio's website and listening live online. You can also check in on your smart phone via the Radio Garden App too.
Please write and tell us what you think of the show!
What's the Elders Council doing?
As the Elders Council Board of Trustees agreed unanimously to join the Later Life Audio Radio Network group this month we now have access to many of the wonderful programmes and short pieces of interest being delivered across the UK, and further afield, which are being written, presented and produced by older people.
We would like to give you the opportunity to hear discussions which are taking place with some of our Network colleagues and you can hear them by copying the link below to your browser.
