For You & Your Family
Keep Active Outdoors
The mental and physical benefits of outdoor recreation activities are significant and we encourage you to get outdoors – but do so safely and in accordance with the law.
Public gatherings are now restricted to no more than two people. This means that all group riding, groups walking/hiking, group running, group paddling, etc, are no longer permitted. Penalties are in place for those who do not adhere to these rules. Details here.
👍 In short - you can continue to take part in outdoor recreation, and you should keep doing it. It has positive influences on mind and body. You should, however, follow the guidelines set out by the Heath Department. This includes social distancing.
👪 Individuals and their family members who reside together should continue their active leisure routines while practicing social distancing and in accordance with the laws regarding self-isolation (if required). This means parents and children can go out together (ie: a single parent with 2 or more children; or two parents and two or more children; etc).
🚶♂️🚶♀️Individuals who live alone or don't have anyone else to go with them can meet with one other person for the purpose of undertaking active leisure, ie: going for a walk, run or ride.
🤧 REMEMBER! Leave at least 1.5m between yourself and others you don't live with. Don't to leave your home if you are in self-isolation or have cold or flu-like symptoms.
🏇🚣♀️🚴♂️ Exercise common-sense when recreating outdoors! The nature of most outdoor recreation activities mean that in many situations you will be further away than the recommended 1.5m distance from others.
- 🚶♀️If you go to a park or reserve and there are lots of people there, choose another trail to go for a walk.
- 🏄♀️ If you go surfing and there are more than two people on your favourite surf break, find another spot to hit the water. The government will not hesitate to close down areas where people flout the law in relation to social distancing.
- 🏃🏿♂️Exercise caution and courtesy at squeeze points on trails and at the waters' edge. If you must pass someone closely, move a short way off the trail or entry point if possible to allow them by, or at the least, turn away as you pass and avoid direct contact.
- 🐩 If you're out to walk the dog but your favourite location is busy, consider going somewhere else. Here is a list of approved dog exercise areas.
