With so many things going on in and around Downtown Knoxville, South Knoxville, and Happy Holler, it can be hard to decide what to do, so we here at Marble Alley Development have chosen to showcase some of the most interesting events for you. Enjoy!
We want to remind you It's up to all of us to slow the spread of COVID-19. Everyone, including young and healthy people, should avoid large gatherings during this time. Stay up-to-date with public health guidelines from cdc.gov. Also, The Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development has designed a new initiative to help transition workers from one industry in need of immediate employment to job opportunities in another industry that is current in need of an expanded workforce. More information can be found at: https://www.tn.gov/workforce/covid-19/jobs.html

In addition, The following links will give you step by step instruction on how to take advantage of your unemployment benefits in Tennessee:

She’ll be reading the stories every Thursday at 7pm from April 2nd through June 4th. Here’s the link. Sweet dreams!

Indie Movies For Free!

Many people during this unprecedented time have had their hours cut or have been laid off and for many people in this situation, money is tight so signing up for Netflix or Amazon Prime is out of the question. Here are a couple of free(!) sites to watch some of the best indie movie out there:
  • Selected Tribeca Film Festival Shorts
  • While the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival has been canceled, the organization behind the festival will be rolling out short films from Tribeca alumni on their Vimeo channel; every day at 11 am, a new short will debut. Click here.

  • Sundance Now
  • This AMC Networks streaming service is offering a free 30-day trial with the code SUNDANCENOW30. Watch indie hits like We Need to Talk About Kevin and Tangerine. Click here to start watching.

  • SXSW 2020 Short Films Sponsored by MailChimp
  • With SXSW cancelled, short filmmakers lost a chance for visibility. MailChimp hopes to change that. Now’s your chance to #SupportTheShorts. Go to here to watch.
Go to the (Virtual) Zoo

Aquariums and zoos across the country are livestreaming their animals to make people feel less alone. Although both are physically closed, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is livestreaming and the San Diego Zoo has both pre-recorded and live footage of its animals.

You can see a full list of animal livestreams here.
Learn!

You can use your abundant free time to enroll in some college courses through the platforms Coursera and EdX. All of the classes on the platforms are free to audit, and there are hundreds of courses in a variety of subject matters available from top universities, including Princeton, Harvard, and Yale.

You can learn more about the courses available here.
Get Fit For Free!

Some gyms across the nation are closing, but that doesn't mean you can't workout. Planet Fitness, one of the nation's largest chain gyms, is offering free online classes starting today, because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The workouts will be live-streamed at 7 p.m. ET each day for the next two weeks. And if you can't make it live, the workouts will be available on-demand on Facebook and in Planet Fitness' YouTube channel and also their website. No equipment is needed, and the classes last 20 minutes or less.
Mystery Link: Expect The Unexpected!

The Italian Mafia makes you an offer you can’t refuse. the Scottish Mafia makes you an offer you can’t understand. The coronavirus has hit many sectors of the economy hard. But goodfellas like Henry, Vinnie, and Tommy DeVito (am I a clown to you?) are really feeling it. Click here to find out why.

Looking For Downtown Parking?

Downtown has free parking on nights and weekends, but with the expansion project at the State Street Garage, finding parking can be confusing. Keep up-to-date with the city of Knoxville parking blog by clicking here.

Also,
There's now an app that can help you strategically pick your parking garage destination, before you even start your car and pull out of the driveway.

Parkopedia.com offers a free phone app that reports data from sensors at the entrances to City-owned downtown garages. So you can see, in real-time, how many parking spaces are available at each garage.

Visit Parkopedia.com to get the app. Enter Knoxville when prompted to enter a city or place.
