Candidate

An ideal candidate cares about Physics, about people doing Physics, and about all the great things that we do together. If you run to become a PhySoc committee member, that means you are willing to dedicate some of your time and energy to the University of St Andrews Physics Society, the organisation and the events. And that is greatly appreciated!

AGM notes

President's report

This year was very exciting for PhySoc, and I am sad to see it end so abruptly, in a way that no one expected. This year, we continued in many of the good old traditions, such as Freshers Breakfasts, pub quizzes and, a newly born tradition, wine-and-cheeses.

Thanks to our amazing Vice President Annie, we started an Instagram account.

Laura, our Social convenor, created countless beautiful posters and publicised the events extremely well, and so the attendance of every event increased compared to the previous years.

Insight, our podcast, is remaining very popular and has seen some exciting new episodes this year, thanks to Sam and Sabrina, the podcast producers.

A highlight of the second semester were undoubtedly the Internship Talks, all put together by Anhelina, our Academic Rep.

It was amazing to see all the new faces participate, many of them brought by Isabel, our First Year Rep. She also did an amazing job preparing the brand new merch order for many of us! Next year, you will see many people walking around the PandA building in a PhySoc hoodie!

The annual trip to CERN was popular as ever, sadly, the pandemic stopped it. That doesn’t diminish the effort that Lilla put into it, though!

A very inspiring event were the PhD talks, where Dennis helped us to reach out to the PhD students at the School. We are happy that they keep coming to our events, too!

Nicole, who by tradition took the honorary role of the Baking Rep after being the President, supplied us with the first wine and cheese, and also ensured the smooth running of the website: check it out!

We had many great photos from Rory and Alex investigated the brand new role of the Careers Rep.

No event ties to their name, but the running of the society depends on them, and this year it was smooth and without issues. Daniel and Henry, the Secretary and the Treasurer, I would call them the Heart and the Pocket of the committee.

Jokes aside, it was an amazing year, and we are looking into a bright future!

Treasurer's Report

We cannot provide a financial statement, since we do not have access to the materials we would need for that. Considering the state of cancelled big-budget events (viz. CERN trip and starball) and the uncertain state of refunds for these, even the broadest estimates for the Physoc budget cannot be guaranteed. We are leaving this report to the EGM in (hopefully!) September.
