Cover Your Face in a Public Place!
Effective Saturday, April 18th at 7AM, all Marylanders are required to wear masks or facial covering in retail spaces, public transportation, and areas where maintaining social distancing are impossible. So whether you're headed to the train station for essential travel or picking up groceries at Lidl, you'll need a game plan for facial covering to protect yourself and those around you this weekend. If you have already purchased a face mask, great! Otherwise, you can make your own by following this sewing guide or convert an existing bandana or piece of cloth into makeshift covering. Taking these extra precautions are key to ensuring all of us have minimal chance of getting or spreading the virus. And as always, if you can . . . stay home!
A Council workshop is scheduled for Monday, April 20th at 6PM. The primary topic is the Fiscal Year 2021 Draft Budget.  You can listen to the live Council teleconference broadcast via the link on the city’s homepage at www.aberdeenmd.gov/live. While at the homepage, sign up someone who would enjoy their own free Advocate newsletter.
Thank You APD Dispatch!
In this time of crisis, we stop to recognize Aberdeen's brilliant telecommunications staff for National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week! Our Dispatch Center, operated with calm professionalism 24/7/365 by just a handful of staff, is the glue that holds the thin blue line together. They are the first voice someone hears during their most difficult moments. Thank you for being on Aberdeen's front line and for the extraordinary way each of you serve our City. We are very proud of you!
WWII Hero Departs Us
Aberdeen has a long, deep roots with the military and a sizable active, retired and former soldier population. So when a World War II veteran like Lt. Col. James "Maggie" Megellas of the 82nd Airborne Division passes, we take notice! Megellas brave feats at the height of the war, including disabling a tank with a hand grenade, made him a legend. Megellas passed in his home in Colleyville, TX just after celebrating his 103 birthday. Learn more about the legacy of Megellas by clicking here.
Yard Waste is scheduled to start again on Friday, April 17!
We know you've been spending a lot of time at home and, for some of our more productive residents, have been using this time to take care of your lawns. Zones 1 & 2 will have yard waste pickup THIS FRIDAY (April 17) while Zones 3 & 4 will begin the Friday afterward (April 24). After, Zones 1 & 2 will receive pickup on the first and third Fridays of the month and Zones 3 & 4 will have pickup on the second and fourth Fridays. Learn which zone you are in by clicking here.

As a reminder, you will not be able to request additional yard waste pickups (beyond your normal pickup) during the months of April and May. This is due to our reduced manpower during the COVID-19 pandemic and we apologize for any inconveniences.
Natural Foods for Sleep
Has the stress of the current crisis adversely impacted your regular sleep cycle? In addition to the obvious (avoid caffeine, etc.), the Sleep Foundation has outlined a handful of foods and drinks that can have natural, positive impacts on your sleep cycle. These include nuts, warm milk and even cottage cheese! Learn more by visiting the article here.
Caution: Stimulus Scams
The federal government is expected to send an unprecedented 150 million payments to eligible Americans this week and over the next few months. And with those funds en route, there is the potential for scammers to try to pry these crucial funds from you or another unsuspecting family.
