Alumni and employees join the fight against COVID-19

George Fox staff and faculty are working at the Engineering Maker Hub to create 3D printing face shields to help protect healthcare workers on the front lines of the pandemic. They can make about 150 a day, but are raising funds to produce even more.
George Fox alumnus Ben Sand ('10) has launched the My Neighbor program, which connects foster families in need with neighbors who can help. Sign up to help a family in your neighborhood.
Alumna Nicole Hudson ('08) made an unusual splash when she and her upstairs neighbor met while cheering local healthcare workers out their window. They were captured sharing a glass of wine by a passersby and were viewed more than 1 million times on social media. They took advantage of the attention to promote a worthy charity raising funds for protective gear for healthcare workers.
See the story and video.
KPTV News story featuring alumna Hannah (Harder) Wildhaber ('18) underscored the risks healthcare professionals face. Hannah, an ER nurse in Salem, is pregnant with her first child, but continues to go to work to care for those who are sick. Hannah is the daughter of Bob Harder  (Engineering) and the daugher-in-law of Caroline Wildhaber (Nursing).
This sign in front of the Providence Newberg Medical Center was created by a small business co-owned by George Fox alumna Jessica (Lavarias) Brittell ('06) to show support for the doctors and nurses on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

What YOU can do to support students

1. Send "Congratulations!" to the Class of 2020. This video message will be shared with them on May 2, the day their commencement would have taken place.

Here's how to send a message to the graduates. With your phone in landscape mode (turned sideways):
  • Record a three- to five-second message of "Congratulations!," "We're proud of you!" or "Good luck!"
  • Email your video to alumni@georgefox.edu
  • Include your name and graduation year in the email
  • Send by April 23, or better yet, email it today!
2. Support the Student Emergency Fund or the George Fox Student Fund to help students who have been impacted by this crisis.

How we're supporting students during this crisis

At a time of crisis and rapid change, George Fox continues to deliver on our Be Known promise, which is: At George Fox, each student will be known – personally, academically and spiritually.

Here are some of the ways we have delivered and will continue to deliver the promise during this pandemic:

Personally
  • Quickly checked out more than 1,000 students, waived fines, and helped students pack and store belongings
  • Provided housing for on-campus students unable to return to their permanent homes
  • Established a Student Emergency Fund to help students in crisis
Academically
  • Provided Chromebooks for students without computers
  • Offered remote academic and career coaching, writing and academic coaching, and online tutoring for many classes
  • Postponed on-campus spring commencement until Aug. 15
Spiritually
  • The Office for Spiritual Life created many new, virtual offerings for students, including online podcasts, Bible studies, and prayer support
  • Praying for each student by name through the semester
  • Offers mental health counseling and pastoral care remotely
