Kia ora amazing Shifties!

We hope your first week back schooling is going well and you are adjusting to a different way of doing things. It has been an absolute JOY for us to see snippets of what you have all been getting up to! Whether it has been virtually connecting one-on-one to your local Shift Coordinator, joining us online to talk self-care, or all of #lockdownlowdown entries that you have sent in for this newsletter!

We know life hasn’t gotten any simpler just because you’re in rāhui (lockdown)... which is why it’s even more of a taonga (treasure) for us to be connecting right now. YOU light up our lives!

We hope this week’s newsletter, and all these amazing submissions, brighten your day as much as they do ours <3

Keep sending us sneak peaks of what you are up to - crafts, workouts, videos, songs, new skills, writing… even school work! Remember, you can win prizes every week!

As always, stay safe and stay strong. Be kind. You are saving lives!

Re-capping from Thursday's Shifterhood Tea Series we were guided to ask ourselves 'what are the blockers to self love?' We explored the relationship between self love and self worth and acknowledged the inner voice. Over zoom we connected once again, in our safe space, sharing, opening up, and embracing our wellbeing within our Shifterhood.

Thank you Jade Barclay for giving us your time, your knowledge and sharing your passion with the Shifterhood. Thank you for reminding us that we all need to GIVE ourselves the time to practice self love, because WE ARE WORTHY of it!

Key takeaways
  1. I AM ENOUGH - say it, write it, feel it, and believe it ALWAYS! Repeat it three times and see how you feel.
  2. Schedule time for self love - Just like any other daily activity it should be practiced because you deserve it.
  3. Your external world is a reflection of your internal world - 'Your vibe will attract your tribe'
EGGCELLENT EGGCERCISE

No suprises here that our Shifties had an eggcellent Easter weekend and giggled their way through some special Easter Eggcercises before they indulged in some well deserved choccies. Watch us werk for our eggs!
Take a look at the #fitspo team that we are, we hope this eggcites you! (or at least gives you a good laugh!!)

TE REO WITH KATA!

This week Kata shares some beautiful tikanga with us, and asks each of us to consider "what is a taonga (treasure) for you at the present moment?"

Usually a taonga to Māori is a pounamu, which we treasure and carry with us all the time, but really anything is a taonga! Let's take a closer look at the word "taonga" to understand it's deeper meaning.

Taonga is made up of three syllables:
TA - this means to cause or create, to make something happen!
O - meaning fullness. Being completely and entirely full up, to the point of overflowing!
NGA - this is a breath, an exhalation. Think of the type of exhale that you release when you feel totally at peace...

Putting that together we see that "taonga" is a treasure that causes us to be overflowing with a feeling of peace and respite... Wow! What an incredible way to think about the things that you truly treasure and practice gratitude for them.

So, what is your taonga at this time?
This week we would like acknowledge and mihi to Dickie Humphries from Tū Moana for his presentation as part of the Youth Work Virtual Summit. He inspired this week's te reo learning.
JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF....
