Hello players and parents of our competitive teams,

These are tough times and I'm sure everyone is looking forward to returning to play, soon:).

Quick update on return to play, team accounts, and team engagement - virtual learning and training.

Return to play

We are awaiting guidance from US Club Soccer and NorCal Premier.  We've been told there are meetings April 20th by US Club Soccer, followed by a few days of NorCal Premier Region 1-9 meetings (we are Region 3) and a final decision of guidance by the Board of Directors at NorCal Premier no later than April 28th. After this guidance, our club will quickly communicate our initial plans moving forward.

We are expecting spring league to be cancelled - or - spring league will be played in the summer upon the removal of the shelter in palace order by the state.

We are also expecting the tryout window to be modified or removed.  This means we will either have tryouts for our teams or a modified roll over of all existing teams into the new 2020/21 season with age group evaluations and final team placement prior to fall league or sooner.

We want all players to know they have a team to play for at our club.  The club is committed to having a positive experience for ALL players once we return to play and are seeking team formation options versus the traditional tryout process.  We are also expecting the CDC, State and County Health officials to have strict return to play guidelines that will impact what we can or cannot do in a group gathering. Our club will always comply with these guidelines in the best interest of safety for our players, coaches and parents.

We are also preparing for a modified summer of tournament and showcase participation.  Due to the ongoing health concerns of COVID-19 and no known vaccine, it's safe to say travel to large events will most likely be limited or not offered.  This includes the probability of our summer Creek Cup being canceled or possibly re-scheduled.

Whatever’s in front of us we will adapt by being flexible, open, safe and always having your child at the forefront of our club decisions.

Team accounts

All team accounts will remain open and under continued control of each team treasurer. Team refunds to player families should not yet be exercised as we are still in spring season (more on that later) and are awaiting US Club Soccer and NorCal Premier guidance.

Team Engagement Virtual Learning & Training

Since the 3rd week of March, all of our teams have been meeting multiple times a week via virtual learning led by their team’s coach.  That virtual learning consists of Zoom meetings, video review, and Google Classroom content. Our Director of Coaching, Adam Cooper, has been organizing and creating content; training videos and fun updates. We are also receiving content compliments of Surf Nation HQ in San Diego.  This content includes training sessions that teams view online and Friday podcasts that all players and parents are welcome to listen to. Players are expected to participate in these sessions, just like a traditional field training session. Coaches are expected to be prepared, organized, communicative, and timely in their virtual training sessions.  Since virtual learning is new and we’ve prepared and built the content training on the fly, we thank our parents and players for their support and patience. Though not ideal to stay home this long, the opportunity for each player to work on their online learning google classroom tasks, physical fitness, or individual skill development from their front or backyards, will have a lasting impact on their player development.

Lastly, we know US Club Soccer and NorCal Premier can offer their guidance on the soccer side, however we will always defer to the health and well being of our players, parents, coaches and referees - by the CDC, State, County and local authorities.

Expect a follow up from us at the end of the month.  Until then, stay safe, be well and healthy.

Thank you,

Steve
