Biosecurity alert - Queensland Fruit Fly

Spotted this dangerous pest on your homegrown fruit and veg? Queensland Fruit Fly (QFly) has been detected in the suburbs of Dalkeith, Claremont and parts of Nedlands and needs eradicating ASAP!

A Quarantine Area has been established to help reduce the spread of pest. Those living in the Quarantine Area must NOT give away, sell or exchange homegrown fruit and vegetables with anybody else. Produce that has ripened and/or fallen off the plant must be removed EVERY 3 DAYS and specially treated before throwing away.*

*Homegrown produce in the Quarantine Area CANNOT be composted, fed to poultry or disposed of in your kerbside bins unless it has been cooked, frozen (minimum 24 hours), solarised (in a sealed, heavy-duty black plastic bag by placing in direct sunlight for three days) or burying to a depth greater than 1 metre.

To avoid food waste, the fruit can still be eaten after it has been thoroughly cooked.

Any pruned branches from fruiting trees and plants need to be fully stripped of their fruit before going in GO bins to avoid spread of the QFly.

Please click here for more info on how you can reduce the spread of this pest.
