History museum offers a great trip back in time

The Hampton History Museum is working on ways for you to discover more about our collection, hear some interesting stories that we’ve uncovered, and learn more about what goes on behind-the-scenes at the museum. Right now, you can explore our collections online, including maps and surveys from the Chambers Collection, incredible images from the Cheyne Studio Collection, and a wealth of photos and materials donated by individuals over the years.

There are a variety of ways to search, and even an interactive map to browse collections relating to sites, structures, cemeteries, and waterways, or by neighborhood district or areas outside Hampton.

The museum has also begun showing a series of 2-4 minute videos called “Clips with the Curator." Now featured are tour of Hampton One: Working, Building, and Racing on the Water, with museum curator Allen Hoilman. Other clips will include 1619: African Arrival, NASA: Hampton Takes Flight, When the Computer Wore a Skirt: NASA’s Human Computers, and a special series highlighting the restored aircraft and space vehicles at Air Power Park. This week, they want to remind you about the  importance of safeguarding our children. The Children’s Bureau, a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, says: "Communities are encouraged to increase awareness and provide education and support to families through resources and strategies to prevent child abuse and neglect."
