The Fledgling--Week of April 17, 2020

I mentioned this at Morning Prayer this morning, but despite my earlier foreboding, not only did Easter arrive this year, Easter actually got out of hand. The daffodils in bud that I cut to adorn my teeny indoor altar evidently had ant larvae on them, so when I came in to say Morning Prayer today, my altar was quite literally covered in new life.
Resurrection does this. We ask for it, forgetting that Christ's resurrection isn't a zombie movie: it doesn't just magically reset the way things were. Christ's resurrection instead pours new life into everything, and then explodes all over the place--radically changing us and the world around us in the process. It is, by definition, new--and not a return to the old life we once had.
God is bringing a new world into being all around us, but sometimes we can't see it because we're so busy looking for the old one. Where have you seen glimpses of a new world around you these days?
If you have a submission to the Fledgling, send it to the office by Thursday morning for inclusion on Friday. Bulletin announcements should be into the office by Wednesday morning.
- If you know of someone who would like to receive the Fledgling, please send their email to the office.

Prayer for the week
Almighty and everlasting God, who in the Paschal mystery established the new covenant of reconciliation: Grant that all who have been reborn into the fellowship of Christ's Body may show forth in their lives what they profess by their faith; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
