Weekly Update for 4.17.20

Testing, Testing, and More Testing...

The Georgia Department of Public Health is greatly expanding COVID-19 testing opportunities for residents across the state, including here in the Coastal Health District.

Here's what's new:

  • Anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 can be tested. Symptoms include fever, cough, and shortness of breath.
  • People who work or live in high-risk settings can get tested even if they don't have symptoms. This includes healthcare workers, emergency responders, critical infrastructure workers, and people living or working in group settings like long-term care facilities.
  • You are no longer required to have a physician referral for a test. You must still have a referral, but now your local county health department can make that referral for you.

Call our COVID-19 Call Center
1-912-230-9744

  • Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.
  • Saturday from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
If you meet the criteria for testing, you'll be given an appointment for one of our drive-through specimen collection sites. All screening must be done over the phone – do not visit a health department clinic in person for screening. There is no cost for the test.

Can I still call my doctor for a test?
Yes! Some doctor's offices, urgent care centers, and hospitals can also provide tests, or refer patients to us for specimen collection. But now you also have the option to call us for screening and referral to a testing site.
FAQ: How can I report a violation of the Governor's "Shelter in Place" order?

Answer: Several state agencies are working to enforce the requirements of Governor Brian Kemp's executive order for all Georgians to shelter in place.Violations should be reported to your local Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Natural Resources State Communications Center, or Department of Public Safety Troop Communications Center closest to you. Contact information is available on the Governor's website. There is also a contact form for submitting an online report.

Children who rely on free or reduced-price meals at school can still get the nutrition they need. The USDA is working with states to continue providing meals to students even though school buildings are closed because of COVID-19.
