Eat well at home – we're online!

In light of the coronavirus lockdown, we've been working hard to provide as much support as possible to anyone affected by cancer.

We've further developed our support with new online groups. These will run for 10 weeks and provide attendees with an opportunity to put diet-related questions to an oncology specialist – so you'll still have access to dietary guidance during this worldwide pandemic.

Online cookery classes with Life Kitchen

As mentioned in our last e-news, we’ve partnered with Life Kitchen to provide live cookery classes. Chef and co-founder of Life Kitchen, Ryan Riley, is presenting some amazing recipes, all from the booklet that Life Kitchen and WCRF developed together last year. During the classes, you'll learn some flavour-enhancing cooking techniques that can help with the taste changes often associated with cancer.

We’re also really excited to announce that for future cookery classes, Ryan will be joined online by registered oncology dietitian Adele Hug. She'll be providing specialist dietary advice, and can also answer any clinical-based questions you may have.

To join the classes follow our Instagram account (@wcrfuk) and select our live broadcasting stream every Tuesday at midday. The cookery videos will also be available on Facebook after the event for anyone who can't make the live stream.

Virtual group, real support

Oncology dietitian Adele will also be hosting closed-group private sessions every week for 10 weeks. At these sessions, she'll guide you through how to eat well during cancer – especially during this lockdown period.

The inside of a fridgeThis is your opportunity to let a specialist get up close and personal with your fridge, and help you make the most of the food you currently have access to. You'll also receive nutritional information on how to safely manage the side-effects associated with cancer and a digital pack of resources to take away. This free support group takes place every Monday at midday.

These sessions are for small groups, so that all attendees have the opportunity to ask specific questions and discuss concerns you may have. Attendance is on a first come basis. However, don’t be discouraged if you’re unable to join the next session; simply sign up to join in the following week. For more information on how to join in, email me at publichealth@wcrf.org.

Stay in touch

Please do join us online at these sessions, and share this with anyone who may find it useful. Stay as safe as possible during this time and continue to practice government guidelines to ensure the safety of yourself and those around you.

We look forward to seeing you online!
