Shasta Living Streets friends,

I hope you and your loved ones are healthy and safe in this extraordinary time.  Shelter-in-place is difficult, but has some upsides - including the great pause that allows us to get out in our neighborhoods.  It's great to see so many people out walking and biking!

We're continuing our work with new Slow Street signs, planning for the Bike Depot coming next year, Redding Bike Share, the Diestelhorst to Downtown as part of the Downtown Loop trail, and more.  Redding and Shasta County are part of a growing movement of bicycling of all kinds - including cargo bikes that are increasingly a vehicle of choice for families, and can serve as important delivery vehicles for businesses.

We will soon see each other again - but in the meantime,
let's get together virtually next Friday evening to watch a movie - at home & together!  We also have ways you can participate in, or just follow the stories, of some cargo bike demonstrations.

Onward together,

Anne Thomas, Executive Director  athomas@shastalivingstreets.org

What people say

"Bicycling might be the answer to much that ails us, but at its heart, it’s freedom on two wheels, a pure embodiment of joy, and quite possibly the closest we grown-ups can get to being kids again."  - Outside Magazine

My kids loved it!  - Sara Sundquist

Demonstrations allow people to experience new things and believe they are possible.

Cargo Bike Demonstrations This Month

There is a fast-growing cargo bike movement across the country.  We're testing ideas for how to use them in our business, and sharing the experience with families and other businesses who are interested.

Cargo bikes:

  • can handle almost anything
  • are faster delivery than cars
  • are good for traffic
  • cheaper & save you money
  • good for the environment
  • anybody can do it
  • healthier workers
  • they're fun!

One bike: 128 loaves of bread + more food!

Eric built a deliver box prototype for us to use in our work.  He's been making deliveries of donated food.  Thank you Eric!
