Many of you will have seen Captain Tom Moore on the News. Captain Tom is the WW2 war veteran who pledged to walk 100 lengths of his garden (25m lengths) before he reached 100 years young for the NHS. Two weeks ago he did manage that feat and donations have been coming in to his just giving page from all around the world. Today the total he has raised is in excess of £29,000,000 + he has also recorded a charity single with Micheal Ball and the NHS Voices of Care Choir. The version of You'll Never Walk Alone has gone straight to No1 in the UK charts making Tom the oldest artist to hold a No1 single in the UK.
Tom has also received over 120,000 birthday cards for his birthday today, these have been arriving from all over the world over the last few weeks.
Tom was also awarded the Pride Of Britain Award for his achievements last week.

If you have missed the story just google "Captain Tom Moore" -  You have to agree this is an amazing story in these difficult times.

The forum had a major software update during on the 18th April. Slight changes may be noticed!!

After logging into the forum please select - Edit Profile -> Board Preferences -> Change Board Style

Prosilver is the default style - lots of blue/silver-grey.

Elegance Green is the Green style we were using. Different colours are available.

And there is also Proflat available in different colours.

You will also notice a few more colour choices available.

Apart from that I can report everything went as expected and the forum is still working.

Latest News

From all the team here at the MGB Register, we hope you are staying safe and well during this incredibly difficult time.

The Coronavirus outbreak is unavoidable. It has had an impact on every part of our lives and has touched every corner of the worldwide MGB community.

Being part of the MG Car Club, we are committed to following the latest UK Government advice on events and public gatherings. Current UK Government and public health advice states we must stay at home and that all non-essential social contact must stop along with all non-essential journeys. We are locked down and confined to our houses and garages.

Those of over 70 years-old, or with underlying health issues are being advised to self-isolate for a period of 12 weeks. While I know I will find that difficult, it will certainly help me catch up on a few of those 'should have done' jobs !

In line with both the UK Government advice and that of Motorsport UK, the governing body, who have withdrawn all organiser’s permits and Certificates of Exemption until June 30th. We urge you to watch the MG Car Club Coronovirus Updates page –  which is being updated on a daily basis, for up to the minute news on events, venues and advice to for all MGCC members.

2022 is the year the MGB becomes 60 years old

We have started planning something to commemorate this milestone.
Looking around to see what other Marques had been doing for a 60 year old motor, I came across the Mini 60 site. I liked the idea of the short stories - https://www.mini.co.uk/en_GB/home/mini-news/60-years-stories.html

With so much spare time currently - would YOU write a short story for us accompanied by a picture of you and your car? Maximum 250 words and 1 image (of your car with or without the owner) lots of adventures have been done in your MGB's over the years, why not share your story with us.

A demo page has been set up https://www.mgb-register.org/mgb-short-stories-demo/

Something interesting for 2021

EEOTY - European Event of the Year 2021

19th to 23rd May
Portugal

Dear MG friends
2021 is set to be a special year as it marks the MGCP – MG Club of Portugal 40th anniversary and we´re looking forward to seeing many of you to celebrate the date with us and participate in the European Event of the Year at the Portuguese Atlantic Coast near Lisbon.

The MGCP, founded in 22.10.1981, was the first single-brand car club to emerge in Portugal. It’s a non-profit association whose purposes are to promote the prestige of the MG brand and to assist their members in the tasks related to the maintenance and preservation of their MGs. Furthermore, it organizes events known as – Concentrações – which are recreational and social meets for its members, combining cultural, sports and gastronomic aspects as a pattern.

As far as distance is concerned we are aware of our geographical location and that´s why the event will run from Wednesday, May 19th through Sunday, May 23rd. A 5-day programme is being carefully developed in order to make it cost effective, memorable and with quality.

Based on the villages of Cascais and Estoril, where there are pre-selected hotels from which you can make your own personal choice, the check-in will happen in Estoril and the farewell party in Cascais. The included visits are to Cabo da Roca, Ericeira, Mafra and Setúbal at short driving distances (105Km/170Km or 65/105 miles) and the full-day visit to Lisbon, on the 20th, will be done by bus.

The main attractions are:

Road trips along:
o   Westernmost Atlantic Coast of Continental Europe
o   Arrábida Natural Park
o   Setúbal Peninsula Wine estate

Visits to:

o   Lisbon’s National Coach Museum
o   Lisbon’s National Azulejo (tile) Museum
o   UNESCO World Heritage sites:

·        Cultural Landscape of Sintra (1995) with Roca Cape (Cabo da Roca) - "Where the land ends and the sea begins."

·        Royal Building of Mafra (2019) – Palace, Basilica, Convent, Cerco Garden and Hunting Park.

We believe that Open Motoring Enthusiasts will have an excellent opportunity to practice it because the weather is quite pleasant in May.

For those arriving on the 18th we will have an optional visit for Wednesday morning. We are talking about going to the countryside by bus, a little further than 40Km/24 miles from Lisbon, and visit the Companhia das Lezírias, founded in 1836, that remains the biggest livestock and forestry estate in Portugal. On a total land area of approximately 18,000 hectares, the breeding of Lusitano horses is one of its main activities. But there is much more to see and taste because the barn owl (Tyto alba) ensures a special protection to the vineyards as it is essential for the ecological balance.

Booking starts: 1st July, 2020

We will return in April with more news and details. In the meantime, the MGCP kindly invites you to look at this video:

So, think about it.

Spread the news to your family, friends and club members.

Save the date and join the European Event of the Year 2021 in Cascais / Estoril.

Best MG Regards from the MGCP Board.

UK MOT Exemption!
(for the other cars in the garage)

Vehicle owners will be granted a 6-month exemption from MOT testing, enabling them to continue to travel to work where this absolutely cannot be done from home, or shop for necessities.

All cars, vans and motorcycles which usually would require an MOT test will be exempted from needing a test from 30 March 2020. Vehicles must be kept in a roadworthy condition, and garages will remain open for essential repair work. Drivers can be prosecuted if driving unsafe vehicles.

Read advice on keeping a vehicle in a good condition.

People should stay at home and avoid travel. The only reasons people should leave their homes is set out in the government guidance.

MOT exemption: from 30 March 2020, MOT vehicle tests will not be required for 6 months.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said:

We must ensure those on the frontline of helping the nation combat COVID-19 are able to do so.

Allowing this temporary exemption from vehicle testing will enable vital services such as deliveries to continue, frontline workers to get to work, and people to get essential food and medicine.

Safety is key, which is why garages will remain open for essential repair work.

Legislation will be introduced on 30 March 2020 and will come into immediate effect for 12 months, following a short consultation with key organisations. Drivers will still need to get their vehicle tested until the new regulations come into place, if they need to use it.

If you can’t get an MOT that’s due because you’re in self-isolation, the Department for Transport is working with insurers and the police to ensure people will not be negatively affected as a result of things that are out of their control.

Practical driving tests and annual testing for lorries, buses and coaches have been suspended for up to 3 months.

Hi, I sold my old MGB roadster about 10 years ago and wondered what may have happened to it now.  I had it for nearly 30 years and fully restored it to prize winning condition, I have lots of pictures of the car and the photos of the restoration that may be of interest to the new owner. I would love to know how they are getting on with the car.
The reg is ALD527H and it is a British racing green roadster.
