Cougar Families,

I know the decision to close school for the remainder of the school year brings about a lot of anxiety and heartbreak for our students - especially our eighth graders who will have had their milestone year cut short.  Please know that the faculty is just as heartbroken.  However, the health and safety of everyone is our number one priority.

Remote Learning will continue through June 18th.  Our commitment to you is that we will continue to think of ways to creatively connect and support our Cougars.  This will require us to think outside of the box and innovate in new ways.  This thinking and flexibility has been shown by our educators already in the last week.  I am confident that energy and effort will continue in the weeks ahead.

In times like this we must remember Henry R. Clissold's School Song

Oh Clissold, dear Clissold,

Our hearts go out to you,

You've given us knowledge

And friends, fond and true.

Oh Clissold, dear Clissold,

We serve and honor thee,

Depend on our efforts

And Loyalty.

Though the years may come and go

We know you'll see us through

Test and trials, we'll meet them all

Because, Clissold of you!

Oh Clissold, dear Clissold,

Your banner we behold,

And pledge our love and faith

To your MAROON AND GOLD!

On behalf of the entire Henry R. Clissold Elementary School staff, know that we are thinking of you, with you, and committed to being there during this time.

Educationally yours,

Principal Marion

What is Henry R. Clissold Elementary School’s plan to provide remote learning for my student during the closure?

Our teachers will provide their students daily learning activities and will be available for at least two hours every day to keep students connected and engaged until school re-opens. Your child will also receive regular communication and feedback from their assigned teacher on learning activities. Please view our schools Remote Learning Plan  or school website to view your child's lesson plans and their teachers daily availability.

What are the school’s expectations for my child while learning at home?

During this time, the focus is to encourage students to stay engaged in academic activities and to reinforce learning on a daily basis. Routine, encouragement, and aligned expectations between families and teachers are important factors of academic engagement in your home learning environment.

Students are expected to complete assignments. Teachers are able to grade work, while grades cannot negatively impact a student’s academic standing, students who do not engage in academic work can be issued an incomplete. Students issued an incomplete will have the opportunity to make-up the incomplete following the remote learning period.

How do I access the plan and materials?

Our remote learning plan for families and students here Remote Learning Plan  or school website

What communications and guidance can my child and I expect?

Families will receive ongoing school-wide communications as well as a regular schedule for communication and feedback between your child and their teacher(s).

Thank you for going above and beyond to support your child during this difficult time. Please continue taking care of each other and yourselves as we face this health crisis together. We know there are many unknowns ahead of us, but we will do whatever it takes to keep our school community safe, healthy, and engaged during this time.

Third Quarter report cards will be mailed directly to your home on Monday, April 20th by CPS Central Office.
In light of the closures, we want to honor our commitment to meet with you and provide you with an update on your child's academic progress. Conferences are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, April 22, 2020.  Please review the schedule below to schedule an appointment with your child(ren) teacher. Teachers will contact you directly as to availability of appointment slots.

Remote Learning Technology Device Support

As a reminder, we are not a 1:1 device school and this puts us at a disadvantage of some schools who have an abundance of technology already on hand. If you need technology device support, complete the requested form .

For students in PreK - 8th grade, they must claim their e-mail address, if they have not done so already.

On April 13th, every assignment will be posted online in Google Classroom in order for your child to participate in remote learning.

Please follow these instructions to access your child's email address:

  • Go to google.cps.edu
  • Click on "new user" on the sign in page
  • Enter your child's FIRST NAME ONLY
  • Enter your child's student ID in "claim code"
  •               -if you do not know this, you can get it from Aspen, Parent Portal, or email your teacher,  or by completing the Student E-mail Address Support Form.
  • Enter your child's birthday in the EXACT FORMAT provided
  • Continue through the process, setting password and setting security questions.
