Hello, friend :)
How are you doing? I hope this newsletter finds you well and in good health.
This month I’m bringing you a kind of obvious choice. But it wasn’t that obvious to me as I only read it for the first time late last year and, oh boy, do I regret not reading it sooner!
Even though I grew up watching Nora Ephron movies - “Sleepless in Seattle” was an all-time favourite throughout my childhood -, “Heartburn” was her first book I’ve read. It is everything you wouldn’t expect a breakup book to be.
Inspired by true events in her own life, the book tells the story of Rachel who is married to Mark and pregnant with their second child. All is going well until she finds out her husband is in love with another woman.
This could be a sad, heartbreaking story. And it kind of is, but it is told in a way that is funny and witty. It will definitely make you think: “What the hell was Mark thinking? Rachel is perfect!” (and, if you’re anything like me, it will also send you down a Wikipedia rabbit hole searching everything there is to know about Nora and Carl Bernstein’s real-life marriage and divorce).
