Weekly Updates: Quarantine 15

Dear Valued Patients,

In normal times, weight loss is one of the most popular topics in our clinic. With the “Stay Home” order, many of us have gravitated towards comfort eating and found healthy habits slipping away, leading to a feeling of “falling off the bandwagon.”


What can you do to limit the “Quarantine 15”?

  • Try to move your body at least 30 minutes every day. Can’t find 30 free minutes? Studies show that exercising in three 10-minute blocks is just as effective. Start with a 10-minute block when you have time and work up from there!
     
  • Limit sugary beverages. Soda, juice, energy drinks, and flavored coffees can all pack a lot of calories into a small quantity. Try cutting back and even eliminating these from your diet. 
     
  • Limit alcohol. Not only is alcohol a common source of empty calories, but it’s also used as the primary fuel for the body. That means the body will preferentially metabolize alcohol, and calories from food in your system will be stored as fat.
     
  • Most of all, be kind to yourself. We’re all facing an enormous amount of change with the pandemic. When our daily routines change, diet and exercise habits will naturally change as well. Be patient with yourself and just focus on one goal at a time. We’ll all get through this!
