STAYING HOPEFUL ONE DAY AT A TIME
STAYING HOPEFUL: A HALF A DAY AT A TIME

We are in the midst of one of the most challenging times that any of us have ever faced. Unprecedented uncertainty, constant change, access to friends and loved ones being denied, and yet we still don't know how long this will last.

It is a time to try to cope and give permissions where none were ever tolerated because as humans, we are not geared to be separated without touch, hugs from friends, and especially not 6’ apart.

For me, I am only allowing myself to look at a half day at a time. It seems I cannot wrap my head around more than that, as the concept is blurred and unfathomable.

When I was going through my cancer experience 15 years ago, the quote that got me through everyday was one by Charles Swindoll, “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations. The remarkable thing is, we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day."

I am hopeful that the teddy bears in the windows, the virtual birthday party car parades, and new knowledge of making a mask will represent the fact that we cannot be shut down forever.

As always, this too shall pass and our fighting human spirits will prevail.

In gratitude,

Culinary Angels DELIVERS ORGANIC PRODUCE, MASKS & BROTH

You may have seen the article in The Independent letting you know that our meal services needed to be suspended, but that we are still delivering to our amazing recipients throughout Livermore, Dublin and Pleasanton.

In partnership with Sunflower Hill Gardens and Fertile Groundworks, we are delivering bags of beautiful, fresh organic produce right out of the ground to our clients. We are also including our beloved bone broth and masks for those who have requested it.

Recipe suggestions, produce washing instructions, and an embedded video slideshow of the produce included in the bags will be emailed.

Please be assured that delivery drivers are taking extreme hygiene precautions and do not have any contact with clients at their doors.

If you, or someone you know is going through a serious health challenge and would benefit from one of our bags, please contact meals@culinaryangels.org.

Here are some of the reactions:

"How wonderful it was to receive the fresh produce last Saturday. It left me with happy tears. The produce was so FRESH. It made me hungry to see the produce- I felt like washing and cooking and eating in fast forward mode.”
“I made the amazing tea with calendula, fennel and mint. It was beyond amazing. The beets were gorgeous. The oranges and lemons were so juicy. The greens were wonderful. The flavorful herbs made me understand why the cooked food had tasted so good. It also made me think how far we go from fresh in our everyday life. All this while our worlds are being challenged with new challenges. Will be ever so grateful for all the selfless volunteers behind this.”
“Thank you wonderful souls!! You are literally the most beautiful blessing I’ve received in 5 years of chemo treatments. I appreciate you all and Im praying that you all stay well and SAFE, through these times.”

MEET A CULINARY ANGEL VOLUNTEER
Culinary Angels Volunteer

"My experience as a volunteer with Culinary Angels has surpassed my greatest expectations.  As a cancer survivor, I had been looking for ways to give back to patients and caregivers who are living day to day through this terrible disease.

Culinary Angels is more than just providing food to clients. These 'angels' who provide the volunteers with recipes have the philosophy that they do not want patients to be served chemical-laden foods but foods that are healing, organic, and nutrient.

An emphasis is placed on using organic vegetables from our local farmers and homemade broth to promote health, wellness and hope to people who are compromised by their challenges.  Each day I leave the volunteer site, I have an enormous feeling that I spent five hours providing someone a chance to hopefully get better.  For me, what else could you want?"
