OCL Annual General Meeting Postponed & Board Term Extended due to COVID-19

These unprecedented times remind us that, while physical distancing is necessary to protect our health, not being social presents its own sets of challenges.

Social connections are critical to our well-being. Neighbours around our community are strengthening connections amongst each other and building new bonds.

Please stay home when you can, and connect with your neighbours, family and friends virtually.

Together, we can thank healthcare and essential service providers

The OCL encourages community members to join people across the world in applauding healthcare and other essential service providers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic every day at 7 p.m.

University of Alberta Volunteers Help with Deliveries

A group of University of Alberta medical students have launched Bag-Half-Full YEG, an initiative to assist seniors and vulnerable people in the Edmonton area with groceries.

Their services include grocery runs, pick-ups for online orders and delivery. The volunteer initiative aims to bridge the gap of accessibility while promoting community health and safety, without charging any service or delivery fee.

The drivers will be medical school volunteers who have had police and background checks done by the University of Alberta.

Community members may opt for two options through an online Google form or phone:

1. You can place an online order at a grocery store which volunteers can retrieve and deliver to your home.
2. You can provide volunteers a list of groceries that they shop for, send you the total cost, and then deliver to your home.

This delivery model involves a no-contact method for community members. Volunteers would either accept e-transfers prior to delivering or cash in envelopes left outside the door. They would then deliver the groceries to your door without contact.

If you need this service, or know any members of the community who could benefit from it, please use this online order form: https://forms.gle/F5u4v1WNYh3vwoRv8

Alternatively, you can call this number 780-952-7101 to place an order.

If you have any questions, please email baghalffullyeg@gmail.com.
