We can make it...

In three decades of teaching I thought I'd seen it all...then COVID crashed the party. But think about it - we have been in the middle of the biggest reboot of education in history. And we are doing OK!

LAPSEN has been working with our partners to bring you some USEFUL resources. I know our programs are in every type of school and your circumstances are unique - which is why we have a shotgun attempt at getting you some resources this month. Hopefully something will hit.

Remember - this LAPSEN thing only works if you share, too. Please share what is working with me: info@lapsenetwork.org

Look below and your will find great materials for free (my favorite price!)

Website Relaunch

We have been working hard to make our website bigger and better! We have merged our portal in Moodle into a new website. You now only need to log in once to access all our resources. Membership only areas are seamless, no longer requiring repeat logons. We will also be able to offer courses more easily. Also those of you in member states will be able to join more easily.

SkillsUSA Offers Free Access to Online Career Readiness Curricula (free online career readiness courses!)

The current pandemic has forced local administrators and teachers to quickly move their courses to virtual/online environments. To support schools rapidly working to find solutions to online learning, SkillsUSA and a group of select partners are providing complimentary (free) access to SkillsUSA Career Essentials curriculum bundles to a limited quantity of students. (These curriculum bundles are usually valued from $25 to $65 per access.)

SkillsUSA Career Essentials resources were built by career readiness experts, and they engage students in defining, implementing and measuring their career readiness skills along every point of their educational journeys, from middle school to the high-school and college/postsecondary levels, including adult learners.

For full information on this offer and descriptions of the available bundles, visit: https://www.skillsusa.org/complimentary-access-skillsusa-career-essentials/.

Report Writing Online Lesson

This one is mine. My Intro course had 3 units left when COVID happened. I figured report writing was one I could adapt pretty easy. The lesson is aimed at 9th/10th grade. There are 4 - 15 minutes video lessons with review activities. Then there is a main report writing activity. There is also vocab activities and information on doing a summative.

Click Here to see the lesson.

18 Free Online Magazines and Journals

In my class students earn Professional Development Points. One way is reading journals. On my PD Points page there are links to 18 journals and magazines. You could send links out to a journal article you like and have the kids write up reflections on the article.

Click Here to see my PD Points page. Look half way down for the journals.

I use "Knowledge Collectors" for articles in class to help the kids summarize their reading - Click Here

Great Stuff for FIRE and EMS (and others, too)

Last newsletter I sent a link to Zero Hour. It had some glitches. Thanks to Melissa Seiwert we got in contact with ARA and the sent us some COOL STUFF.
Zero Hour is now a direct download - Click Here It is awesome for EMS or Fire programs that teach EMR.
They also gave us FREE ACCESS to Mission BioTech where students can hunt down a virus in a pandemic (that sounds familiar). This would be great for ALL our pathways! Click Here to learn more.
Finally - for those in EMS, they have shared an Sedation & Airway simulation with us, too. They did tell us this is a bit graphic and realistic. Click Here to learn more!

Teaching Tip - have kids play and write reflections on how they did.

Thanks Melissa for helping to get these to our network!

Go ahead and ask!

We are going to have an amazing conference in November. Send an email to your CTE folks letting them know you want to come. It may not be approved until fall - but let them know you want to come. Bring them with you - we have a track for the administrators as well!

Did you know there are Perkins Funds to send you? Your state and system get monies to send teachers to conferences like ours. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Check out the conference page on our website - www.lapsenetwork.org
