Country Spotlight: Japan

Emergency Declared In Japanese Prefecture Hit By 2nd Wave Of Coronavirus Infections

Japan is now undergoing a second state of emergency less than a month after the first one (lifted on March 19) because the number of coronavirus cases have started to rise again.

The declaration, which falls under a law revised just last month in response to the pandemic, allows governors to issue stay-at-home directives to contain the spread of the virus.
This order is estimated to be lifted May 6.

Passersby wearing protective masks walk on a snow-covered street in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, in late February during the first wave of the novel coronavirus. Now, officials have declared a new state of emergency as cases in Hokkaido spike.

Free Hand Sanitizer

Ironton Distillery & Crafthouse will have complimentary travel size bottles of housemade hand sanitizer available for pickup daily at their RiNo location, 3636 Chestnut Pl., from 3 to 7 PM.

There's a limit of one bottle per customer. Guests can also bring their own containers and get up to four ounces for free.

Brandstracts made their first batch of hand sanitizer. It contains 70% ethanol, purified water, vegetable glycerin, and hemp derived terpenes and cannabidiol (100mg CBD / 2oz). They are offering the sanitizer for cheap, free, or donation, depending on the situation. Please fill out this form if you are in need!
Ways to Volunteer

As there is a shortage of sanitation supplies in most hospitals, one thing we can do is help donate masks

With shelters having to close, people are adopting or fostering cats and dogs! It seems to be mutually beneficial, as pets help qualm feelings of loneliness and isolation, and they also encourage exercise!
Check out your local shelter for options!

Social connection is important to our individual and collective well-being.  Distancing our bodies doesn’t mean we have to be distanced at heart.
  • Check in with your friends and family by phone.
  • Enjoy a book you have been waiting to read. Invite others to read it and discuss it on social media (maybe others will join!).
  • Create a group who can go shopping for people at higher risk for serious illness.
  • Schedule a time for everyone to watch the same movie or TV show at their own homes.
  • Connect with nature: Go outside to enjoy a walk with your dog.  Go on a family bike ride or hike. Work in your garden.
  • Order food for takeout or curbside pick-up.
