Hi all,

The Facebook groups - I'm using them and I hope you are too

I'm using our four new FB groups to get out the right information to the right parts of our network. That's partly to take the pressure off these short weekly updates. But especially to encourage you to share ideas and concerns with others. Anyway if you're not on them you might miss the occasional relevant discussion or piece of information.

Example: an operator in the Tours and Experiences group raised concerns that the State's government support package for the taxi industry was for metro taxis only. One of our board members immediately took this forward to a weekly forum with a Federal minister. And I sent the comment on to the CEO of TICSA, Shaun de Bruyn, who sits on the peak advisory board to the Premier. So these groups are really great forums. To remind you they are:

Fleurieu Peninsula Tours and Experience Operators Group: 58 members (the most active group)
Fleurieu Peninsula Accommodation Providers Group: 77 members
Fleurieu Peninsula Food and Drink Providers Group: 43 members
Fleurieu Peninsula Events Group: 15 members and quiet - but it'll kick into action when issues arise - and they always do!

Key Fleurieu Peninsula projects

I've been working closely with tourism staff of our four councils and we have two key projects on the go:

  • A digital marketing review. We've extending the recent 20-operator digital audit to ourselves. Tourism Tribe is assessing how good a job we do across website, Facebook, Instagram and TripAdvisor. We'll use this to improve our work individually and to look at where we can collaborate more effectively.

  • A review of our visual assets. We want to update the stock of great photography and videography of the region.

Generally our aim is to work our marketing efforts together more effectively. And as we settle this part down we want to work with industry more generally to create together an outstanding destination marketing machine.

In that regard, note the next item...

SATC digital training program - get on board!

The SATC's free digital training program for up to 600 operators is a must-not-miss opportunity. This is ground zero stuff for marketing these days and this might be the best moment in the worst time to upgrade your marketing nous.

You can choose a provider from: Tourism Accelerator (Hayden Zammit), Tourism eSchool (Rebecca White and Paige Rowett) and Tourism Tribe (Liz Ward and team). Details of how to access the program are here.

Warm regards,
Peter Cahalan
