Contractual guidelines for NEC contracts in South Africa
The COVID-19 impact on NEC contracts in South Africa needs to be managed in terms of the contract. ICE-SA has engaged with the authors of the NEC contract to provide you with guidance on how the COVID-19 impact should be approached, specifically in a South African context. NEC3 is used more widely in South Africa than NEC4, and the guidance is primarily focused on the NEC3 forms of contract. All parties should make use of contract specialists when preparing notices in terms of their specific contracts.

The following guideline document is made available on the ICE-SA website here:

Enter the ICE International Graduate Video Competition
We are looking for enthusiastic ICE members or Graduate members in all international regions, outside of the UK aged 35 or under, who are passionate about civil engineering and who would like to feature as part of the video campaign.

We invite members to film themselves, using a smartphone, to give some key messages about the value of Graduate membership.

Successful entries will form part of a short video/s aimed at our international Graduate market. These videos will be shared with universities across the world and will also be shared via the ICE website, YouTube and social media channels.

The best entry we receive will win a £250 Amazon voucher (or equivalent value in your local currency). Second and third prizes will win £100 and £50 in Amazon vouchers.

Supporting candidates towards membership of ICE
ICE Members enjoy the benefits that the Institution offers, as well as the prestige that comes from their designation as Chartered or Incorporated Engineer. There are many young graduate engineers who aspire to joining this internationally recognised qualification, but find it difficult to apply. ICE-SA is looking to broaden our list of ICE members who are prepared to assist and guide a keen young engineer to join our esteemed profession. There are various roles that can be taken, from simply being the lead Sponsor for an applicant, through being an officially recognised Mentor with the ICE through to being a nominated Supervising Civil Engineer within a Company Approved Training Scheme.

We are looking for a distribution of volunteers across South Africa and the region, who are prepared to offer a few hours of their time each month to supporting a young engineer documenting their achievement of the ICE’s Membership Outcomes. This preparation and guidance facilitates the application process.

Anyone who is prepared to assist, please send an email to secretary@ice-sa.org.za with your name, ICE Membership Number and Grade of Membership, address, employer’s details and contact particulars.

Join the ICE-SA Committee and make a differenceThe ICE-SA Committee is looking for some additional capacity and skills. We would specifically look for volunteers who would be interested in the following portfolios on the committee:
  • Communications
  • Continuing Professional Development
  • Events

If you are interested in joining your ICE-SA Committee, please send an email to secretary@ice-sa.org.za with a brief CV, and how you can see yourself contributing.
