As many of you know, in December 2019, DPLA announced a new project, supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, to make it easier to incorporate artifacts from DPLA’s partner institutions into Wikimedia Commons. We believe this is an exciting opportunity for our partners to boost visibility and usage via inclusion in Wikipedia articles.

We are happy to report that, since this project kicked off in January, more than 500,000 images and other digital assets from DPLA have been uploaded, already making DPLA the single biggest contributing partner to Wikimedia Commons, and we’re just getting started.

If your organization is currently contributing to DPLA, or you’d like to learn more about contributing to Wikimedia, we’d love for you to join us for a free DPLA community Wikimedia webinar on Tuesday, April 21st at 1:30pm ET. In it, we’ll be providing an introduction to our Wikimedia project; providing guidance on how partners can begin contributing data to Wikimedia Commons through the DPLA network; and discussing next steps for interested organizations. Speakers will include our DPLA data fellow Dominic Byrd-McDevitt and Sandra Fauconnier, GLAM-Wiki Specialist from the Wikimedia Foundation.

Please RSVP here.

Thanks, and hope to see you on the 21st!
