Tranquility of Mind”

Patanjali says that tranquility of mind is the aim of Yoga, without which you cannot gain anything higher—call it God, Nirvana, or Self-realization. Whatever it may be called, tranquility of mind is most important.

God bless you. Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti.”    Sri Swami Satchidananda

By being peaceful yourself, you can inspire others to be peaceful. You don’t have to bring peace to the whole world. Bring peace to the place where you are sitting. If you are peaceful, at least that part of the world is peaceful. Then you can think of others. Your most important and very first responsibility is to maintain your peace. Without that, even if you take action to help others, you are not going to do it well. You can be useful only when you are easeful and peaceful.  MORE   (This is an excerpt from Swami Satchidananda's book, Adversity & Awakening. Ode to the "Karuna" Virus
By Dzogchen Rinpoche

This virus awakens us from our ignorant sleep.
This virus reminds us of our renunciation and sorrow.
This virus reminds us of death and impermanence.
This virus teaches us to practice goodness and avoid wrongdoing.
This virus spurs us to create merit, purify obscurations, seclude ourselves, and recite mantras.  MORE

The PBS show, "The Art Scene," recently featured an episode that included Padmarani Rasiah-Cantu, the dance master of the Fine Arts Society of Yogaville. In the episode, Padmarani speaks about the culture and tradition of the classical art form known as Bharata Natyam, as well as the inspiration behind her personal journey. The episode highlights Padmarani's reflections about her Guru, Swami Satchidananda; her early years as a dancer; and it includes footage of her dancing, teaching, and of Yogaville. (Padmarani's section begins at the 17:20 minute mark.)

Camden Voices, a choir from the UK shared: "When coronavirus hit the UK, our rehearsals, concerts and tours were cancelled and members traveled back to their home countries.... This video shows how we can overcome obstacles with technology and our imagination. It is 28 individual videos, submitted from all over the world, combined into one—a truly international collaboration that shows the power of music in our lives."

Dear Yoga Studio, How are you? Are you cold? Are you lonely? Is your fear of abandonment kicking in? I’m writing to see how you, the place that so many of us call our second home, are doing in these strange times. So often, we frequent you as a refuge from our usual daily lives, but as you probably know, these are unusual times. When I started practicing Yoga 25 years ago, we didn’t have many options of places to practice and clothes to wear. We practiced in our living rooms, in boxers, on towels, without props, like so many of us are doing now that all the studios are closed.  MORE

During these difficult days of the COVID-19, Rev. Dhyani Simonini (Integral Yoga Minister and Yogaville resident) has been lifting spirits by writing remembrances of special interactions over the years, with Swami Satchidananda (Sri Gurudev).
After one of his trips abroad, Sri Gurudev came back very overtired and not in his best health. Our Prem Anjali (Gurudev's personal assistant) looked for a way to encourage him to rest and rejuvenate since there were health concerns, but it was very hard to try to keep him resting.  MORE
