Hi Friend,

With schools closed for the rest of the year, we know you have questions about how to register your child for school in the fall — and what school may even look like for students when they come back. The uncertainty of it all has taken a toll on many of us who are just trying to get through each day as best we can.

This week, we're sharing with you some certainties you can count on to help your child thrive during the rest of the school year — remote as school may be — with an eye towards summer, too.

Home Learning Resources for Families

We know students across the state are receiving very different levels of educational support at home right now. We have compiled a list of vetted resources to help you continue your child's learning at home — including resources for English language learners and students with special education needs — and will update this list continuously.

Also, join BPS for their Parent University Leadership Forum on Tuesday, May 26 at 4 PM to learn more about expectations for remote learning and how families can keep their kids engaged, focused, and motivated.

BPS School Registration Deadline: May 29th

Priority registration for all BPS grade levels ends May 29. To register over the phone, please call 617-635-9010, Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. (Note: All BPS Welcome Center Services will be closed on Monday, May 25.)

You can also pre-register online here online and schedule your phone appointment here to complete your registration. Don't miss your chance to register for school in the fall and complete your registration before May 29!

NEW: METCO Opens 2nd Spring Application Cycle

The current METCO application cycle for Boston resident students entering grades K-10 is now open through June 15. It's easy to complete your preliminary application online: no documentation is required at the time you apply.

After the cycle closes on June 15, families will receive a lottery number. You'll then have two weeks to upload your required documents from any phone or computer.

Students entering Kindergarten in the fall are especially encouraged to sign up! Click here to start your application.

Thinking About the Summer

We understand that many families are trying to plan ahead for summer camps, outdoor activities, and other programs. As part of the state's phased reopening plan, summer camps will likely reopen during Phases 2 and 3, but exact dates of reopening — and in what capacity — have yet to be announced.

EdNavigator is launching a free, virtual summer experience that starts June 1, called Camp Kinda (as in — it's just like summer camp... kinda). With weekly themes built into flexible daily playlists to fit even the busiest parents' schedules, children in grades K-8 will explore, create, read, play, and move each day of Camp Kinda. Sign up for free here.

As we learn about more virtual and in-person opportunities for the summer, we'll be sure to add them to our COVID-19 Toolkit for Families.

We know that this spring and early summer looks very different than we had imagined, with canceled proms and virtual high school graduations — but that doesn't mean that we won't do our best to be as creative as possible to make sure our kids get the education and support they deserve, even in times of COVID.

In the coming months we will be reaching out to learn what concerns you have about your child's education — and how we can begin to advocate not just for you, but with you, too.

Stay safe and be well,
