Dear Friend:
First, let me stridently oppose the decision by Republican leadership in the Kansas House and Senate to overturn Governor Laura Kelly's limitation on large gatherings as they relate to church congregations.

During this Easter weekend, I know - and Jesus and your pastor know - that you don't need to be in a building to experience the despair of Maundy Thursday or the joy of the resurrection. For where two or more are gathered...

Have a blessed (and socially distant) Easter!

Your Rights
Some have expressed concerns over recent reports of “government tracking” of Americans. You should know that “the government” is not doing this, but many private companies are – with your permission – due to the Location Services function on your mobile phone. Furthermore, this data is not connected to your personal information. There is some interesting data which Google compiled in a recent COVID-19 Community Mobility Report

You are not giving up your rights by staying home. You are choosing to limit your freedom in order to protect yourself and fellow Kansans.
Your Vote
One way to highlight the important distinction is how we use our right to vote. If you need a reason to vote by mail, watch what happened in Wisconsin this week.

This isn't just because of COVID, but for every election. We do not know what August and November will bring:
  • Constituents have shared stories of accidents and illnesses which kept them from the polls on Election Day.
  • Voting by mail is the only guaranteed way to voice your priorities.
Kansas is a "no excuse" vote-by-mail" state, but you must complete a request for each election

By doing one of the following, a ballot will land in your mailbox in July for the August primary election, and October for the November general election:

Edit the PDF or print/complete this form (all KS), one each for the 8-4-20 primary election and the 11-3-20 general election, mail to your election office listed on page 2.

Complete the form on your phone (JoCo only). Right now, the form will only give you the request for the August Primary, so you'll need to complete another in the fall for the November election.

Subscribe to the ballot application subscription service, KanVote. For $10/year, you'll receive completed applications for both elections, and an addressed, stamped envelope to your election office. All you do is sign & send.
