Deutschlandfunk broadcasts special Covid-19 programs

Deutschlandfunk has joined other broadcasters in producing special broadcast related to Covid-19 news, on its Deutschlandfunk Documents and Debates station. The station is available throughout Germany on DAB+.

Ofcom sets out licensing plans for small-scale DAB

Ofcom will advertise licences for small-scale DAB in eight ‘Rounds’ - starting with Round One comprised of 25 local areas across the UK. The Ofcom small-scale programme will potentially see the launch of up to 200 small-scale multiplexes throughout the UK over an extended period of 10 years.

Smooth Chill goes national in the UK

Global launched Smooth Chill last September on DAB in London, and with 301,000 people tuning in each week - according to the first set of Rajar results - the station is now expanding its reach from London to nationwide coverage. Smooth Country remains on local multiplexes including London, Manchester and Nottingham.

Kath Brown leaves Commercial Radio Australia

Kathryn Sabel Brown (Kath Brown) has left Commercial Radio Australia after a spell of 25 years with the industry body. Kath, who became an early advocate for DAB digital radio as it allowed broadcasters to offer niche audio formats and additional text and graphics, told Radio Info she is “proud to have made a significant contribution to the launch and adoption of DAB+ digital radio in Australia.”

DAB+ offering expands in the Netherlands

The number of DAB+ stations on air in the Netherlands is rising, with new stations launching in the north of the country. RTV Noordkop, Los Radio Den Helder and Coastline are available to listeners on DAB+ in the north of the country as of this week.

Ami launches on DAB+ in Paris

Since 1 April 2020, Ami - the French radio station that reports on new developments in the field of technology - is broadcasting on DAB+ in and around Paris. The popular radio station will also be launching on DAB+ in La Rochelle and Poitiers in the near future.

Albrecht launches DR 53 DAB+ radio

The DR 53 DAB+ digital radio adaptor enables crystal-clear digital radio reception as well as Bluetooth coupling so that music can be transferred from the smartphone, Spotify or Amazon Music to the existing stereo system in the living room. With a four inch colour display, DAB slideshows, station logos, album covers, pictures and news can be viewed.

First Kathrein DAB+ receivers to be available in May

The German manufacturer will release its first three DAB+ radio models next month. The DAB+ 1 Mini will cost approximately 140 euros, while pricing for the DAB+ Tower, and DAB+ 100 Highline has yet to be determined.
