Easter Sunday Worship
April 12 at 9:30 AM

A “festival” celebration of the resurrection, including “home communion.” You are invited to set aside some bread (or a cracker), wine or juice.

“Home Communion”

As we noted in the VISTA, there has been much discussion among Bishops, pastors and ELCA church members about the appropriateness of sharing in communion when we are not able to be physically present with one another during our worship. There are thoughtful perspectives on both side of this issue. Some, including our own presiding bishop, Elizabeth Eaton, have suggested that we fast from Holy Communion until we can be physically present with one another. Others have suggested that, even if we are meeting via the Internet, we are, nonetheless, a gathered assembly and it is appropriate to share “home communion” in our individual homes.

Our Church Council and Worship Team recently shared a discussion on this subject and our consensus is to include “home communion” in our worship beginning on Easter Sunday. For those who wish to share in communion, you are invited to set aside some bread (or cracker), a cup of wine or juice, which will be then blessed and shared in our individual settings. If you do not have these items, but would like to share in the meal, please let us know and we will try to provide them. You may also choose to not partake in the meal, with the assurance that Christ is fully present in the proclamation of the Word.

In this time that we are cannot be together in order to save lives and suffering, and knowing that God is present always and everywhere, we hope that celebrating communion together in this way will add another opportunity to open our hearts to God in new and wondrous ways.
