The Cutting Edge

April 10, 2020

Here's what's happening across our Conference, at least what I've heard about. Feel free to share this with anyone!

Click here for a new message I've prepared for the Adventists across Kansas and Nebraska.

How does the church "shelter in place" while still being a light in their community. It is possible!

"I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’ -- Jesus
Resurrection Celebration

4:00 p.m. on Sabbath

Your Conference office staff has prepared a one-hour Resurrection Celebration for your blessing and encouragement. You can view it any time after 4:00 p.m. on Sabbath. There is music, scripture, consice insights into the final days of Jesus's life and even a children's story. Click here to worship our Risen Savior together.
On Friday, April 17, 46 of our congregations will be part of "virtual evangelism" with It Is Written and John Bradshaw. With people "trapped" in their homes because of the pandemic, there are many asking serious questions about life and death. Pray for this and watch for more details.

Jeff Bovee (Education Director) says, "I commend all of our teachers for doing their best to meet the students' instructional, spiritual, and emotional needs via distance education during this unprecedented crises our country is facing. They are doing an exceptional job and going above and beyond in caring for their students," says Jeff.

"I've been adding to and updating our Children's Ministries web site with great ideas for your kiddos during this 'stay-at-home' reality," says Sue Carlson (Children's Ministries Director). "You can make Sabbath and worship time
special for the young ones. Just this week we’ve added links to The Chosen videos, online stories, Storytime with Pastor Brad videos, craft ideas and an entire section of Easter activities to help families reflect on the amazing death, burial and resurrection of Jesus," says Sue.
During this time of where our churches are not meeting, please continue to support the mission of Christ through your tithes and offerings. This be done in many ways.

"Have you ever wondered what it might have been like to be in Jerusalem on the day Jesus died on the cross?" asks Vanessa Schaecher. "Piedmont Park is happy to present an ONLINE version of Journey to the Cross TOMORROW, April 11 at 2:00 pm. Gather around your computer or phone or TV and experience a journey that ends not at a cross nor at a tomb. The video will premiere at 2:00 pm on April 11 (Sabbath) on Piedmont Park’s YouTube Channel and will be available all Easter weekend, so we invite you to share the link on your social media pages or e-mails and invite your family and friends to view it as well! Click here or here to find out more about this event," says Vanessa.
"Pastor Nelson Rossi held church services for the Grand Island and Hastings church members via Zoom!" says Regina Harvey. "Members who were able to enjoy a Friday night worship and then on Sabbath morning for Sabbath School and Church. He used members from each church to
complete the Friday night worship and Sabbath morning program. Everyone enjoyed singing hymns to the piano, the Sabbath School lesson, Bible readings, prayer requests and prayer. Then, Pastor Rossi gave a sermon on Matthew 24. It was a great alternative considering the times we are in! Over 50 members joined for the online program. Now that we all have the hang of it, he is considering a mid-week Bible study for each of his churches via Zoom!" says Regina.
ADRA is delivering lifesaving assistance wherever it is needed most, and we need YOUR help. Your gift to our COVID-19 Response Fund allows ADRA the ability to respond in the best way possible to this crisis. We have never faced a challenge like this before and the extent of the threats to our staff, projects, and beneficiaries are still unknown.

"Eight weeks ago I never imagined the little things in life, the essential things that make us humanity could be gone in an instant," says Pastor Mark Tamaleaa (KC New Haven). "I miss hugging people. I miss shaking hands. I miss smiling without a mask to let people know I come in peace. Here’s a word of encouragement friend, ". . weeping may endure for a night, but Joy will come in the morning. RENEWED HOPE FOOD PANTRY . . . #WeAreEssential" says Pastor Mark.

"You won't want to miss a special LIVESTREAM concert by violin extraordinaire Jaime Jorge as he plays soothing music meant to encourage and uplift in this time of uncertainty and social distancing,"  Plan now to gather around your computer or phone or TV and watch this concert! The LIVESTREAM LINK is active now and will expire at midnight on Sunday. If you would like to contribute financially to Jaime Jorge's ministry, please click here then click on the donate button. Happy Easter from Piedmont Park Church!
"Bev and I took food to needy kids and their families," says Pastor Mitch Elrod. "Many helped to provide the food to families in Hays and La Crosse. Ministry is going on! Hays Chapel is giving food to the needy from its food pantry also," says Pastor Mitch.
"School looks different now in Great Bend, Kansas," says teacher Sherry Larson. "But thanks to Zoom we are still able to have worship with Pastor Sharp. Thank you, pastor for sharing with my students. We are blessed even during our time of social distancing. God is good," says Sherry.
"My Omaha students had to write riddles with their vocabulary words then have their parents solve them," says teacher Loretta Johnson. "They had to send me pictures of them doing it. Usually my students would do this in class with their classmates. It's interesting to listen to their clues, especially the ones who make them challenging or incorporate content they have learned in other subjects in the riddles. It brought me joy to see my students interacting with their parents and having fun doing it," says Loretta.
"Bev asked a family to come sing for us at the Hays Chapel," says Pastor Mitch Elrod. "They were a great blessing. I invited a guest speaker and a few people were scattered around the room. The presence of God was in the house. We livestream our Monday Bible studies at 1:30 pm.," says Pastor MItch.
"I am blessed to have a church elder and friend that would fly to my town (Columbus, Nebraska) only to check on me and my family, and pray with me," says Pastor Sandro Sandoval. "Thanks, John Linke!"
Summer Camp .... YES!!! (we hope)
"Our theme this summer is 'You Are Here' which focuses on the unpredictability of life and yet God is faithful through it all," says Tim Floyd (Youth/Young Adult Director). "What better message for our young people (and staff) than to spend dedicated time focusing on how God is in control and His will is always fulfilled in our lives! I'm in need of a few
more staff. If you know someone who is at least 16 years old when camp starts (May 24) please send them my way! Camper and Staff registrations can be found by clicking here. Or, for more information, call or text me at 828-707-6542," says Pastor Tim.
"We will be celebrating the Footwashing service and the Lord’s Supper together online during our worship service tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.," says Pastor Ryan Watson (Garden City, Dodge City, Liberal, Kansas). Click here to join us. Watch the video instructions.
Sam Huenergardt (CEO) sent me these photos from the Heroes Drive-in on Tuesday at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission. "The Church of the Resurrection coordinated the event to pray for and inspire our caregivers and patients. Our caregivers looked down on the parking lot, packed with cars of those praying," says Sam.
This week I have been working on redesigning my page on the Conference website to be more useful to youth, young adults, parents, club leaders and pastors looking for ideas during these crazy times," says Tim Floyd
(Youth/Young Adult Director). "As with anything new there are bugs to work out, but check back frequently as I continue to load things every day. Check it out, I hope some of it is useful to you!" says Pastor Tim.
"The first Sabbath of our Hastings church closing because of the virus and wanting to do more than just sit at home, we decided to get outside and get busy!" says Regina Harvey. "We passed out literature and books to the surrounding neighbors, placing them upon the doorstep or near the door. Hastings Church also owns two Adventist radio stations that broadcast all over town and flashlight key chains with the call letters were also given away. It was a sunny, crisp afternoon and a great day to do the Lord's work!" says Regina.
Click here to see Union College's response to the Covid-19 pandemic. "In order to ensure the safety of Union students and employees, college administrators decided on March 19 to move Union College to "Open Limited" status." Read more...
The Conference office is closed through April 26 because of the "Safer at Home" order for Topeka. All non-essential businesses are closed. Our staff will be working from home and are still eager to serve you. Leave a phone message at 785-478-4726. Messages will be retrieved daily.
The offering this Sabbath is for Christian Record Services for the Blind. How do people who are blind learn about the Blessed Hope? They don’t unless someone tells them about it. How does someone who is blind read the Bible? They don’t unless they can find a large print, audio, or Braille Bible. How easy was it for you to learn about salvation and procure
your own Bible? How easy was it for you to go to a summer camp, or send your kids to a summer camp?  Click here.
**If you know something that you think would be of interest to other Kansas-Nebraska Adventists, please let me know. I am trying to keep everyone on the "cutting edge" by sending this out each Friday.

Have a wonderful Sabbath!
