A MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICE

Hello families. We hope this finds you healthy and safe!

We are still waiting on full guidance from the district, but wanted to share a few items with you:

PE Lockers - We are working on a plan to support students to empty out their lockers.  We plan on using last names, and grade levels (prioritizing 8th grade) to ensure expediency and also minimizing large groups.  We are looking into late April, or early May to follow guidance that the next few weeks should only be for essential trips out of the house only.  We will send a full plan out in the upcoming weeks.

Grading - The following represents the clarity we have received from the district:

  • 5th marking period will now end April 17th.
  • 6th marking period = April 20th - May 30th and will be credit/no credit.
Otherwise...
  • Ensure students are logging into google classroom daily. If you are able, please sit with them at the beginning or end of their work time to support their learning.

  • If your student is struggling completing individual assignments, please contact the classroom teacher.  If your student is having other struggles relating to the work, please contact your grade level dean.  For 6th grade contact Lacy.Lefkowitz@ousd.org, for 7th grade contact Susan.Thacher@ousd.org, for 8th grade contact Eric.Galvan@ousd.org.

  • Please log into the CMS homepage to see both the ZOOM schedule and the days each content teacher has for planning, to ensure that students are being supplied with appropriate learning materials.  Both schedules are subject to change

  • If you are in need of resources(or have extra resources), please contact Mrs. Anderson at Edana.Anderson@ousd.org

    • Food is available Monday and Thursday from 8am-12pm.  The closest site to us is at SanKofa.

From the PTA

OUR PTA (STILL) NEEDS YOU!

We recognize times are challenging and it may feel hard to make future commitments. But in times like these, the Claremont PTA will play an even more vital role in helping the administration to maintain programs and provide support to students — but we have several open roles next year that must be filled! Please don’t sit on the bench; this is a moment for those who are able to commit to help tackle the challenges that will arise in our community during the next school year.

• President - runs board and general meetings, prepares agendas, works closely with the principal to support the school.

• VP of Fundraising - leads the Claremont fund campaign, assists the auction leads, and recruits leaders for the pancake breakfast.

• VP of Events -helps find leads for events like Rockridge Out & About, Pi / STEAM Night and more. This role can be shared by two people and attending the events is not necessary.

Please contact Amy GoldenMiho KubotaEleanor Katari or Kira Don to learn more.

AUCTION PARTIES

All auction parties scheduled to take place before June 1st are cancelled.

We hope you will consider the price you paid for your tickets as a donation, but if you would like to request a refund, please contact auction@claremontms.org.

IDEAS TO HELP WHILE AT HOME

We have added a list of links of resources to help students, families and the community learn, explore and pass the time during the COVID-19 pandemic. Go to our HOMEPAGE >>  RESOURCES  >>  IDEAS TO HELP WHILE AT HOME. If you have anything to add, please email us at news@claremontms.org.

And here is an additional google doc with even more ideas and learning tools — best of all, everything is sorted by grade level.

LOCAL HARDWARE STORE OFFERING CURBSIDE PICKUP

Our friends at Cole Hardware on College Ave. are offering curbside pickup for customers at this time. Give them a call at (510) 230-0145 and they will take care of you without having to leave your car.

ORDERING FROM AMAZON MORE THESE DAYS?

As much as we want to support our local businesses (see above), if you find yourself ordering from Amazon more than usual, don't forget to click on the AmazonSmile graphic shown on the Claremont homepage. Shop and select your purchases like you normally do and at checkout a portion of your total will go back to the PTA.

CLAREMONT'S GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM

In case you missed it, our girls basketball team made us smile with their social-distancing-approved video on our Facebook and Instagram pages. Way to go, Knights!
