We would like to provide you with an update on our golf course as the world deals with the Covid-19 pandemic.

The snow has melted off the course and the ice is off the lake. The course seems to have weathered the winter well, but some cleanup and remediation of the grounds is required as a result of the installation of our great new irrigation system last fall.

As you are likely aware, the Ontario government has declared recreational facilities such as our golf course as non-essential, and the course, including the driving range, will remain closed while this guidance is in effect. We do have the OK to maintain the course and both Mike Gascho, Director of Golf Course Operations, and Jim Myerscough, Greens Superintendent, have started back to work this week.
In order to help manage the expenses for the course we have taken the following steps:
  • We have reached out to the company that leases our course equipment to us and they have agreed to defer lease payments until the course is up and running again.
  • We are preparing to apply for the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy, which we expect will underwrite our employment expenses up to 75% for up to 3 months if our revenue has decreased by 30% or more.  If any of you have expertise in these programs, please let us know.
  • We are securing a hold on new power carts which will allow us to acquire these carts once our course is open for business again.
  • Mike has secured additional help for the Pro Shop for this year, but we have deferred any further staffing beyond Mike & Jim for the time being.
Please help us abide by the government directives to close all recreational facilities and continue physical distancing, including staying off the course and driving range. Our number one priority continues to be the safety, health and well-being of our employees, guests/members and our community.

We will continue to provide additional updates in the coming weeks as this situation unfolds.

Please contact Mike Gascho (mike@sturgeonpointgolf.com) if you have any questions.

Thank you and stay safe!
