Just two months later, the Coronavirus pandemic has turned the desire to stay connected from a fun diversion into a pressing need, and digital campfires have exploded into the mainstream. WHY GO DEEP ON DIGITAL CAMPFIRES?
In my original piece, I broke out digital campfires into three types, defined by the primary reason people gather there: private messaging, micro-interests, or shared experiences (think: Instagram's Threads, Slack, Reddit, Fortnite etc.). 

Then the Coronavirus pandemic happened. Practically overnight, just about everyone--from our closest friends to the Pope--launched a digital campfire. In the wake of this massive shift, I wondered: What distinguishes a great digital campfire from a so-so one? How do you build one that everyone’s clamoring to join?  What are the secrets of keeping one stoked and burning red-hot over time, especially in such an unpredictable world?
To probe these questions, I’m launching The Digital Campfire Download so I can get up close and personal (in a socially distanced way, of course), with the experts.
