Dear wolf advocate:

The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting all corners of the world, and community support is important, especially in times of crisis. Be safe, and please take care of yourselves and each other.

STATE LEGISLATIVE MEETINGS: We will NOT be meeting at the Capitol in St. Paul this Thursday, April 16, due to the Governor's "Stay At Home" order until May 4. We are continuing to follow legislative actions very closely and will keep you updated as we learn more. We are also working on ways supporters can contact legislators by email. In addition, before COVID-19, we had conversations on likely legislation to name the wolf the state animal.

POTENTIAL FEDERAL WOLF DELISTING UPDATE:  The U.S. Department of Interior's proposed rule to remove Endangered Species Act protections for wolves is still under consideration. This proposed rule would allow individual states to implement hunting and trapping seasons immediately. Although we were anticipating a final rule announcement this March, we hear it could be this summer before action is officially taken.

STATE LEGISLATIVE UPDATE ON NONLETHAL METHODS: Funding for nonlethal methods to prevent conflicts between livestock and wolves was the topic of MN House and Senate committee hearings a few weeks ago. Howling For Wolves promotes nonlethal methods as an important tool to assist farmers/ranchers in preventing wolf-livestock conflicts. More information about nonlethal methods used in Minnesota can be found here on the HFW website. Here is the report by the Department of Agriculture, and PowerPoint on the Prevention Grants.

SUPPORT HOWLING FOR WOLVES: Even in tough and uncertain times, organizations like Howling For Wolves must continue their mission and complete projects. Your donations allow us to continue to organize and speak on behalf of the wolf. We appreciate your generosity. Donations can be made online here, are tax-deductible to our non-profit.

Thank you for all that you do.
