WE Market Co-op Response to COVID-19

WE Market Co-op is closely monitoring the COVID-19 activity in our area, throughout our country, and around the world. We are receiving news daily from experts in the grocery industry regarding recommended practices and procedures to handle various situations. Our aim is maintain our normal services as much as possible while making changes as determined necessary to ensure the safety of our customers, staff, and community.
  • We are complying with the mandatory 6 foot social distancing. Customers have done a great job of spacing their shopping so that we have not had to begin metering.
  • To alleviate some risk for those higher at risk, we have designated 9am-10am Monday-Friday for seniors and immunosuppressed customers only.
  • We removed all seating per State orders.
  • We started curbside and delivery services. This is currently for members only, but we hope to get a system in place that will allow us to open this up to all customers. Please see our website for more details.
  • We are supplying disinfectant wipes for use by our customers in the store. Our supply of wipes is sporadic, but we'll keep them supplied as often as we can get them in.
  • We are wiping down surfaces and sanitizing door handles frequently throughout the day.
  • Customers may no longer self-serve bulk water, and all containers used for water must be ones that have been purchased at the co-op per Pierce County Health Department.
  • We have discontinued self-service bulk and customers may no longer use their own containers for bulk per State order. We have this area staffed for full service, and we provide a variety of bags and containers free of charge!
  • Our back end area and back entrance have been changed to Staff Only to accommodate the new bulk service requirements, curbside/delivery pickup staging area, and to ensure that staff have sufficient working space to maintain social distancing while they work.
  • All staff are asked to take their temperature before arriving for their shift. We also have a forehead thermometer on site for staff to take their temperatures during the day.
  • All staff are asked to not report to work and to consult their health care provider if they are experiencing any of the three main symptoms of COVID-19: fever, persistent cough, or shortness of breath.
  • Our staff has been supplied with a generous amount of handmade masks. Thanks to those who donated!
Please bear with us through these surely frequent and sudden changes in the way that we do things as we work to stay current throughout this process.

Check our Facebook page and website for the most current updates on changes to our services and hours.

New Back Door!

Our old wooden back door has been retired and replaced with a more efficient, weather-tight metal door. Thanks to Amy Freeman and Glass Express!

(Note: Due to our current COVID-19 setup, the back door is currently a staff and delivery only entrance)

Curbside and Delivery

We are offering curbside pickup and delivery to continue to provide groceries to those who may not be able to come into the store, or even to the store. Due to the complexity of this service, it is currently available to members only. We hope to be able to provide these services to all customers in the future. For further details on these services, please visit our website!

Board of Director News

  • Board Meetings - Open Meeting
The Board is working on establishing a protocol for holding our monthly meetings online during the Safer at Home order. If you are interested in attending an online Board meeting, please reach out to the Board at board@wholeearthgrocery.coop, so we can inform you of the platform and include you when we set up our meeting. This process is new to us, so please be patient as we figure out how we will be holding our meetings in the foreseeable future.
As a reminder, Board meetings have been moved to the third Monday of the month from 6-8:30 PM.

    Annual Meeting – Still Cancelled
As we begin to settle into social distancing for who knows how long, rescheduling the Annual Meeting in the near future does not seem to be an option. We are saddened that we won’t get the chance to enjoy each other’s company and all the pleasures of sharing hearty food made with intention that the meeting provides each year. We were so excited about the changes to our ruling documents and looked forward to hearing the membership's response. While we are disappointed that we were unable to move forward with the vote to amend the Articles of Incorporation and By-laws, we also know the bulk of the work is done. We are looking into options for an all-mail vote or other possibilities, so please stay tuned while we navigate this tricky territory during extraordinary times.

Thank you! Thank you for making a difference in this community by shopping at your co-op.  Every dollar that you choose to spend here goes right back into your community and not into the hands of a CEO of a larger organization. This is how you can make a difference!
