SUPPORTING WOMEN TO ESTABLISH SMALL SCALE LAYER POULTRY FARMING
Hand in Hand Afghanistan is promoting backyard layer poultry farming as it is one of the suitable income generating activities for the poor and vulnerable women.
Recently, Hand in Hand Afghanistan provided 4,440 layer chickens to 222 women in Qalay Ahmad Khan, Naw Abad Qalay Ahmad Khan and Bagh-e- Kuti villages of Bagrami district of Kabul province.
Each of the women received 20 layer chickens, these women have already gone through the practical poultry farming training and received the required tools such as feed, water pot, feeder, etc… earlier and built their chicken coops.

STAFF CAPACITY BUILDING
As Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases are increasing, Hand in Hand Afghanistan has included GBV training in its program delivery. Therefore, a three-day training program titled Gender and Gender Based Violence is conducted for project team of Households Adopt Sustainable Economic Livelihoods (HASEL) at Mazar-e- Sharif regional office. ENTERPRISES AND JOBS FOR WOMEN
During this reporting period, Self-Help Group members have saved total AFN 509,351 and lent AFN 178,528 internally. The enterprises start up kits and internal loans have resulted in establishment and enhancement of 294 micro-enterprises which has resulted in creation of 281 jobs in their respective communities.
HAMIDA A DILIGENT WOMAN
Hamida, her husband and their five children aged nine – 18-years-old were lucky to escape with their lives when their village of Mirza Shams was almost washed away by floodwaters in 2016. The flood arrived so suddenly they were forced to climb the trees in their yard to avoid being swept away. Left with nothing but the clothes they were standing in the family walked to Shah Rahim where local aid agencies were able to give them some help. Further reading...
