HAROLD ABRAHAM

My name is Dr. Harold Abraham and I believe that HRE USA has the ability to positively impact the lives of today’s youth and tomorrow’s leaders. When our schools and teachers further learning environments characterized by human dignity, respect and non-discrimination, children and youth learn through practice to uphold and respect the rights of others. As a current school administrator and formerly classified student, I have always placed human rights in the highest regard. I believe that together we can out systems in place and appropriately train others to uphold best practices.
ANGELICA BROOKS

I am the Founder and Executive Director, of The Silent Voices Project that gives a voice to the voiceless through advocating for their rights, educating others on their human rights, and speaking out on injustices. Our New Beginnings project focuses on the fight against Human Trafficking including assisting victims with recovery, healing, and empowerment. I am an active member of the Northern Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force that advocates for policy changes to human trafficking.

I currently serve as the HRE USA Regional Representative for Alabama and I am interested in serving on the steering committee because I am committed to the principles of human rights and I think that my skill set could be an asset to the committee. I have a passion for human rights and human rights activism. I also am passionate about changing lives, informing the community, and making a difference.

JESS EVANS

I serve as an assessment and accreditation specialist for the College of Education and Human Services at Murray State University (KY). A Memphis, TN native, I actively work to integrate social justice and human rights into my personal and professional life. I previously served as the Kentucky Area Coordinator for Amnesty International. Additionally, I have been responsible for curriculum development and instruction for an interdisciplinary seminar on the death penalty and human rights. I hold an EdD in Educational Psychology and Technology and master’s degrees in Human Development Leadership and Organizational Communication. I hope to contribute my passion for human rights and professional skills of evaluation and instructional design to the HRE USA Steering Committee.

JONATHAN LANCASTER

I am a social studies teacher and lead teacher at my school, where I incorporate discussions of many different elements of human rights. I also serve on my county's Human Relations Commission, which advises the county executive on policies that promote human rights and combat racism, prejudice, and bigotry. I would love to serve on the HRE USA Steering Committee, and expand my role of incorporating human rights in education and schools.

NICOLE PALASZ

I work with the Institute of World Affairs (IWA) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Center for International Education, where I develop global education programs for K-12 educators and the broader community. Prior to joining IWA, I worked with the New Tactics in Human Rights project at the Center for Victims of Torture, where I supported human rights defenders in sharing tactics and identifying new ideas for action in their countries and communities.

I have experience building effective partnerships to reach new teacher audiences and provide an entry point for global and human rights learning. Through joining the HRE USA Steering Committee, I hope to help develop strategies to expand the HRE USA network and assist more educators in introducing human rights education in their classrooms and organizations. I also welcome the opportunity to learn from other Steering Committee Members and educators around the country to improve our work in Milwaukee.
