With fall just around the corner (I know I know don't rush it!) and with no end in sight for the WFH situation, I want to share some of my favorite nutrition books and cookbooks. Whether you're looking for a new read, seeking some inspiration in the kitchen, or just want some insight into what the Middleberg Nutrition team is reading we've got a ton of great options!

The Middleberg Nutrition Reading List:

Recipe Books
Quick and Delicious Healthy Recipes: Quicker Than Quick - Pamela Salzman is one of my favorite chefs and I adore her and her recipes. This is her second cookbook (her first book, Kitchen Matters, is also a favorite). Who doesn't want healthy + delicious meals in a pinch especially these days? She also has a fabulous weekly dinner planner on her website here

Smoothie Love: The Smoothie Project + Slim Down Smoothies - For anyone who loves smoothies or is interested in experimenting more these are the only smoothie guides you will need!

Middle Eastern Food and Beyond: Persiana- For anyone who loves Middle Eastern food this is a must! Think Blood Orange + Radicchio Salad, Butternut Squash with Pistachio, Pesto, Feta + Pomegranate Seeds and Lamb + Pistachio Patties. I have been cooking a ton from this book all summer long.

Baby and Toddler Feeding: A little self promotion here but if you are planning on starting solids for your baby soon or have a picky toddler or just need some family meal ideas check out my two books, The Big Book of Organic Baby Food and The Big Book of Organic Toddler Food

Inflammation:  Healing through Nutrition -Eliza, a fabulous dietitian and previous team member at Middleberg Nutrition has done a great job of outlining the key healing foods and how to incorporate them into your daily life.

The Newbie Cook: The Can't Cook Cookbook- I particularly love this book for my clients heading off to college or those who will be cooking on their own for the first time. Jessica does such a nice job of including the "classic" recipes everyone should have in their toolkit while making them delicious and healthy.

Grain Free Baking: Sweet Laurel- Great for those who have food allergies and/or sensitives as all the recipes in this book are free of gluten, dairy, soy and refined sugar. Everything I have made from this cookbook I have loved!

Nutrition Books
Eating For Mental Health: Dr. Drew Ramsey is a pioneer in the movement of Nutritional Psychiatry.  I had the privilege of working with him at the 92Y a few years ago and follow his work closely. His book Eat Complete is a fabulous guide on what specific nutrients and foods can influence our mental health and overall wellness. Be on the lookout for his yet to be released book, Eat To Beat Depression And Anxiety.

Vitamins and Minerals 101: Fortify Your Life by Dr. Tieraona Low Dog. I also had the privilege of moderating a panel with Dr. Low Dog at the 92Y and she has easily turned into one of my favorite wellness professionals.  Her book helps you navigate the complex and often confusing landscape of vitamins, minerals and provides a personalized approach to using nutritional supplements for your specific health needs.

Overall Nutrition + Wellness: How To Be Well by Dr. Frank Lipman. This handbook contains more than 100 simple steps to improve your overall health focusing on everything from gut health to heart health to sleep.

Food Politics. I basically chose to go to NYU for graduate school because it was at the time led by Marion Nestle. Fun fact, nutrition is my second career (Healthcare Public Relations was my first) and I originally was going to get my Master's in Public Health before I landed on a Masters in Clinical Nutrition. Anyway, Marion Nestle is one of the most impressive women I know. She can synthesize any tough concept and make it easily digestible. She is also at the forefront of food politics (how the food industry Influences nutrition and health). She has many books. I especially love: Food Politics and Unsavory Truth
