Continuing to Survive Covid-19 in Colombia

A look at how things are going

Virus update in Colombia
On the day of this writing Colombia reports over 317,000  Covid-19 cases in the country with almost 11,000 deaths attributed to it. Bogota intensive care units are filled with other cities reporting the same.

Unfortunately Graciela and I sat in a hospital emergency room the night the system collapsed.

Lockdown continues in Bogota with Pico y Cedula in effect. Rather meaning the last digit of your national identification determines which days you can go out to stores. In addition some barrios experiencing a high number of infected residents are in quarantine including with a curfew.

When we do go out from the house 99% of the people wear masks. Well, that is in our barrio. We constantly hear stories about other places in the city acting like there is no virus on the loose.

Go Daddy testing my patience in getting better service for our readers
The above mentioned emergency room visit put an end to my woodworking for probably about six months. So, I took it upon myself to upgrade the blogsite hosting. Thanks to the increase in readers and other factors a better server is needed. Go Daddy has hosted our site from the beginning. Over the last four years downtime has been a minimum. However, dealing with them to upgrade has been a real pain in the ass. Over four hours dealing with their support (which they prefer to call guides) and I received more misinformation than correct and helpful responses. And things are still not up and running correctly. Now they are telling me another four to seven business days are needed. My faith in their ,so called, guides is exceptionally low. When the current hosting expires I will be looking for a different company.

We are keeping busy
To begin with much more time is needed to communicate with readers. For 50 years I have touch typed at about 65 words a minute. Now down to just one hand, passing the word takes considerably more time. Dancing fingers on a keyboard recording flying thoughts is enjoyable. Slowly putting words to screen while watching were fingers land is not a fun time.

Walking using the treadmill, playing with the dog and, sometimes, medical appointments occupies time in my day. Almost all our food is delivered from local markets.

Graciela puts more effort than I do into keeping busy. Her contention is the Covid-19 has taken her freedom. She communicates daily with her daughter in Switzerland and is amazed people there are constantly out enjoying the sun without wearing masks.

We both increased our housekeeping duties. It has been over three months without a housekeeper. And I do believe it is going to be considerably longer. She lives in one of the worst hit barrios.

There is Graciela's new hobby of baking. I can't complain as there are always sweet things in the house. In that respect I did make points by shipping some parchment paper from The USA. But thank goodness for the treadmill to help me retard the advance of those extra pounds.

Same subject two writings
The way some media outlets use propaganda in their presentations is interesting. Anyway here are two articles on the same subject about Colombia. Thought readers might like to compare for themselves and see if they can spot the propaganda techniques.
